George Ashpaugh

Suicide at Poor Farm
George Ashpaugh hung himself last Thursday evening in a closet on the poor farm, where he has been staying since last spring.

Mr. Ashpaugh was an old resident of this vicinity, and was 67 years old. He told some of the people at the poor farm that he was getting ready to die and that he would not be at the poor farm any longer. Otherwise, he gave no indication of despondency. He was found hanging in the closet by Wm Findling, employed at the poor farm.

Coroner Perry and Sheriff Chirnside went out and brot the body to Fairbury where an inquest was held Friday with a finding that death was the result of suicide.

He leaves two children, Mrs. George Bennett of this city and "Billy" Ashpaugh of Cherry county. He was separated from his wife several years ago and she since married Chas Bloyd.

The remains were buried at Richland Center where the funeral was held Sunday afternoon.
