A family of new comers by the name of Boskhart, living on the farm belonging to D.J. Bower, lost a child on Saturday last by scarlet fever. Being almost entire strangers in the place, this blow will be a very sad one for them.

John Burkhart

John Burkhart died at the residence of his son, Ed Burkhart, northeast of Fairbury, on February 21, aged 81 years, 11 months and 21 days.

He was born in Lancaster county, Penn., March 13, 1828. From Pennsylvania, he moved in 1849 to Illinois. He was married in Knox county, Ills., in 1853 to Charlotte Clatfelder. In 1880, the family moved to Jefferson county, where he resided until his death, which occurred suddenly while visiting his son, his residence being in Fairbury.

He is survived by his wife, six children and 10 grandchildren. The children are Mary Freed, Beatrice; Lydia Waid, Beatrice; Edward Burkhart, four miles north of Fairbury; Willis, living near Kesterston; John, residing in Fairbury and Adah Nash, Michigan.

The funeral was held at the Christian church on Thursday, February 25, conducted by Rev. Forsythe and the remains interred in the Bower cemetery.
