LESLIE AND RUTH GALBREATH TRANSCRIBED BY: MELODY BEERY SOURCE: LOUP COUNTY CENTENNIAL BOOK 1883-1983 David Leslie Galbreath was born November 4, 1890 in Missouri, to George Benjamin Galbreath and Manila "Jennie" Brown Galbreath. On December 24, 1914 he was united in marriage to Kitty Ruth Harvey whose birthdate was September 8, 1896. She being the 5th child of James Herman and Kitty Belle Taylor Harvey, and being born in Loup County on the home place about 3 miles east of Taylor. The young couple made their first home on his homestead in the sandhills northwest of Almeria. Here they ranched, did some farming and always raised a very large garden while in Loup County. To this union was born eight children: Lester Harvey, Glenn Herman, Vera Ruth, Wayne Edward, Arva Mae, Nola Ora, Opal Irene and Ollen Richard. All of the children attending the rural school known as District No. 48, north of their home. This was a rather large school as a number of families with children lived in this part of Loup County. In 1941 they sold out, and moved to Sargent, later going to the west coast and working in the defense factories during World War II. Ollen was the only one of the children at home by this time. Later they moved to the back country of the Ozark Mountains where they farmed and did dairying. AS there health declined they moved to Cameron, Missouri, and were living there at the time of the death of Leslie on May 31, 1964, and also where Ruth lived when she passed away December 10. 1972, except for a short time in a rest home. They are buried in Memorial Gardens, Cameron Missouri. |
