A Fatal Quarrel   

 

An Old Feud Between Neighbor Ends in a Killing

 

Humboldt, Nebraska, December 14, --  (Special to the Herald)  Last night Sherm Davis and J. W. Harper got into a fight in which Harper received wounds that will prove fatal.

 

It is an old feud, and Harper had sworn to kill Davis.  They met and resumed the quarrel, when Harper pulled his “gun” and Davis snatched it away and struck him several heavy blows over the head, one of which broke the skull and left him completely paralyzed.

 

Davis waived examination and was taken to jail at Falls City today.

Asks $11,200 Damages After Fatal Collision

Falls City, Nebraska, November 20—The Ayers Auto Supply company, St. Joseph, Missouri, is the defendant in a $11,200 damage action brought in district court here by Elmer Steward, Falls City, as the result of a fatal automobile accident.

The fatality was Neal S. West, Falls City, salesman for the Ayers concern, which the petition alleges owned the car West was driving when he collided last October 27 with a machine occupied by Steward and his wife and Mr. and Mrs. John Dougherty, also of Falls City.

$20,000 Bond Issue Voted at Humboldt   

Humboldt, Nebraska, November 20 – A 20 thousand dollar bond issued for construction of a municipal auditorium and community building was approved here Tuesday in a special election. The vote was 208 for, 83 against. The structure wall cost 60 thousand dollars, with WPA furnishing 40 thousand dollars.

Report Gates Backed as New State Sheriff

Falls City, Nebraska, November 20—Richardson County Sheriff Irvin Gates reportedly is being mentioned for the job of state sheriff in event there is a change under the new administration. Reports here indicate several sheriffs are backing Gates for the post.
