30th Annual Reunion

 

 

 

The 30th Annual Reunion of the Lewis family was held on the above date in the parlors of the Baptist Church at Western.

 

“Thanks to our Father” was sung before partaking of the bountiful dinner.

 

After dinner the following program was presented:

 

A piano solo:  Prelude by Rachmaninoff played by Peggy White

Duet, “Dear Hearts and Gentle People” and “May you Always”, sung by Kathy and Jean Freeborn

A Cornet solo, “Sirus”, played by Leslie Ann Mosley accompanied by Barbara Mosley

A piano solo, “The Fox Hunt”, played by Dennis White.

 

This was preceded by the singing of “America”, by the group with Fred Winter leading and Kathy Freeborn at the piano.

 

Following the program we returned to the basement for the business meeting.

 

With Lewis Winter presiding, Sadie Winter led in prayer.

 

The minutes of the 1962 meeting were read by acting secretary, Alvena Winter in the absence of the Secretary, Ann Armour.  They were approved.

 

After some discussion it was decided to continue these gatherings.

 

Each family was asked for a report.  Alvena Winter reported Richard had sent greetings, that

Freds are in Omaha, Lois going to be in the Oxnard, California School District this year in the Counseling Office at Thousand Oaks and that Bob, Dolly and sons had just visited here but could not remain for the gathering.  And that their daughter Sharon and her husband are expected for a visit next week.

 

Naomi Plummer told of her trip with her daughter May, thru the West last summer, also that she was planning to go to the National Conference of Baptist Women at Green Lake.  She reported later that Ruth had hurt her foot and was unable to come and that Art and Fred’s were all fine.

 

Part of a letter from Helen Winter Wiegers were read and some pictures of them shown.

 

Archie White spoke words of encouragement and Elaine said they were always happy to come.

 

Betty Freeborn read a letter from her mother who is visiting in California with greetings from herself and Frances Jean.  Betty also like the Reunions and reported on the Richard Stones.  Bob Freeborn told of their trip East over the last 4th.

 

Rollie Winter said he always enjoys the get togethers and Marvel told of Pamela being at the Baptist Camp at Fullerton.  Michael is visiting in Kansas.

 

Les and Margaret Mosley each spoke of enjoying the food and fellowship. 

 

Sadie Winter told of their activities during the year with Christmas in Phoenix, a trip to San Antonio; of Lewis, Jrs. Recent visit here and his 25th anniversary of graduation from H.S. and her 50th.

 

The historians report by Alvena Winter was given:

 

1 marriage Sharon Winter to David Bordenkircher, October 10, 1962.

 

1 death Adah Lewis, wife of Guy, November 16, 1962.

 

4 births:

 

A son Trent Noel to Claudeen and Dewey Geistlinger, December 24, 1962

A son Greg to Sharon (Wheeler) and Don Viba, March 9, 1963

A son to Gloria (Wiegers) and Michael Hunt in April 1963

A son James to Joyce (Schultz) Bush and husband, May 9, 1963

Also reported Janet (Schultz) Drouillard and husband had a daughter, Risa Rena, born January 8, 1962.

 

There were 23 at the Reunion:

Rolland, Marvel, Karen and Jeff Winter

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Winter

 

Moved by Rolland the officers be retained – seconded and carried.

 

12:30 was announced as the time.

 

Kathy Freeborn, Lewis Winter III and Stephen Ragsdale graduated from H.S. this year.
