Saline County lies in the third tier of counties from the Missouri River and in the second from the south line of the state.

It is surrounded by Seward on the north, Lancaster and Gage on the east, Jefferson on the south and Fillmore on the west.

The name Saline, signifying salt, was applied to the county from a supposition that somewhere within its boundaries were

to be found numerous salt springs.  This, supposition, however, proved untrue, since there were no discoveries of

saline fountains.  The county seat is Wilber.
