 John Brown

Nebraska Cattleman Killed.
Shot down by a supposed Detective Near the Dakota Line


Hot Springs, S.D. July 17 - John Brown, a prominent stockman of Sioux County, Nebraska, was shot and killed by Robert Wallace of this county near the state line today.

 

Wallace is reported as a detective of a large cattle corporation, and always went armed, claiming his life was threatened. That section of country has been noted for cattle rustling and it is charged that Brown acquired stock more rapidly than was regular. The sheriff and coroner have gone to the scene of the killing, which is nearly fifty miles from here.

Mrs. Clinton Metz and Children


Mother and Children Perish In Blizzard


Harrison, Neb., March 8 - The bodies of Mrs. Clinton Metz, and her two children, who were frozen to death in the recent blizzard, have been found about a half a mile from the Metz ranch.

 

The children became lost on the way from school and other mother became lost while searching for them.

 

The bodies were found about two hundred yards apart.

Henry Weriz

 

Henry Weriz of Harrison, Nebraska committed suicide on Tuesday of last week by shooting.

 

He was a native of York County and lived in the vicinity of Taneytown.

 

Twenty-five years ago he went to Harrison and acquired a ranch of several hundred acres and was engaged in raising cattle and as a building contractor.

 

He was unmarried and visited relatives in the East two years ago.

 

He leaves two brothers and three sisters, Nathaniel Wertz of East Berlin, Emanuel and Misses Annie Sarah and Sevilla, all of Baltimore.

Frederick Zerbst

 

Aged Farmer Commits Suicide


Harrison, Neb., April 26 - Frederick Zerbst, an aged German farmer living ten miles northwest of here, committed suicide yesterday afternoon by hanging.

 

For some time past he has show signs of insanity and he had been closely watched by his family, but eluded their vigilance and it is thought that he took his own life while in a temporary fit.
