Stanton County, Nebraska

Stanton County was named for Edwin M. Stanton in 1867, when its present boundaries were defined.  Before that it had been known as Izard County, and it contained one row of precincts, which now form the western boundary of Cuming County.  It is situated north of Platte and Colfax, east of Madison, south of Wayne and west of Cuming County.  It is one of the smallest counties in the state, containing only  12 precincts.  The county seat is Stanton.
