County’s ex-Treasurer
Pierson A Prisoner for Embezzlement
Helena, Montana, January 15. -- (Special) – E. S. Pearson, ex-treasurer of
Valley County, Nebraska , who was arrested at Butte City Tuesday at the
instance of the Nebraska authorities, was today turned over to Sheriff Beagle
of Valley County, who secured a requisition and started on his return tonight
with the ex[treasurer as a prisoner.
When the arrest was made it was supposed that Pierson was
wanted for disposing of mortgaged property, but Sheriff Beagle says he is
wanted for the more serious charge of embezzlement. He says that Pierson while holding the office
of county treasurer appropriated money collected for taxes to his own use.
A pretty brunette named Nancy Dye gave the information that
led to Pierson’s arrest. It is not known
how this woman secured the old man’s confidence. She called upon him at the jail yesterday at
his request, when they conversed for nearly an hour. The subject of their conference was kept a
secret, however, as neither would divulge anything and further particulars
could not be gleaned.
