LABOR DISPUTE
A conflict occurred near Eureka, Nev, on the 18th, between a Sheriff's
posse and a band of Italian rioters, which resulted in the killing of
five of the rioters and the wounding of six others. The Italians were
engaged in coal mining, and struck for higher wages. Their demands
were not acceded to, and wanton destruction of property followed. It
was to quell the disturbance that the posse was sent.

PASSED THE CENTURY MARK
A fatal railroad accident occurred at Palisade Tuesday morning, the
victim being an aged Indian woman who was known by nearly everyone as
"Granny." It appears that the squaw was picking up bits of scattered
coal near the track of the E. & P. while the trainmen were
switching cars and making up a train for Eureka. In crossing the track
one of the cars struck her, killing her instantly. The squaw as said
to be the oldest of her race in Nevada, being 108 years old.

INSANE EN ROUTE
Under Sheriff Walsh, of Eureka county, Nevada, yesterday passed
through the city en route for Woodbridge with an insane man named N
Johnson, who labors unders the impression that the U.S. Government "is
down upon him", and that to get his due from the Government he will
have to fight the entire United States army, a la Modoc. When arrested
he had several sacks of bullets, numerous cans of powder, boxes of
caps, and plenty of prepared wadding, together with numerous weapons,
showing that he "meant business." Day before yesterday Deputy Sheriff
Burns, of Humboldt County, Nevada, took through to Woodbridge an
insane man named P Machoney.
