MRS. PAULINE C. O'CARROLL
Pauline Catherine (Backus) O'Carroll passed away Oct. 8, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Pauline was born April 21, 1916, in Golconda to Fred and Rhoda Backus.
In 1925 Pauline's family moved to Winnemucca where she graduated from Winnemucca Grammar School. She attended and graduated from Humboldt Co., High School. Pauline married Tom O'Carroll in 1937. She was a housewife and her family was her life.
She was active in her community, with PTA, Altar Society, Winnemucca booster club, literary club, hospital auxiliary, later in life enjoying playing golf with the ladies at the Winnemucca golf club. She was a devoted Catholic, a devoted mother and good friend. To know her was to love her. She always had a beautiful smile and infectious laugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tom, son Tommy, three sisters Mary Glenn, Helen King, Millie Tobin, three brothers, Lynn, Gene and Leland Backus. She is survived by five children, Mary Jane (Earl) Cornforth of Winnemucca, Phyllis (Al) Wathen of Dallas, Texas, Patricia (Howard) Loosbroock of Las Vegas, Michael O'Carroll of Sparks, and Mille (Scott) Grune of Sparks. She is aiso survived by 13 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. We are all so blessed to have had her for so many years.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, at St. Paul's Catholic Church. The mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow the Rosary. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church, E. 4th & Melarkey Street in Winnemucca, NV 89445.
MR. FRANCISCO I. OCHOA
Francisco "Frank" Iniguez Ochoa, 69, of Winnemucca passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Renown Medical Center in Reno.
Francisco Iniguez Ochoa was born on May 1, 1940, in Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico, to Feliz Iniguez and Lorena Ochoa. He was the 9th of 11 children.
Frank left Mexico in September of 1962 and traveled to the United States. He arrived in Elko and was hired on as a ranch hand by Isidoro Inda at the Upper Clover Ranch. There, he met and fell in love with Francey Inda. The Inda family moved to Winnemucca in 1965 and Frank followed. Frank and Francey were married in Winnemucca on Sept. 24, 1966. They settled down in Winnemucca and began their family. They were blessed with three girls, Nancy, Alicia and Sylvia. Frank worked in various jobs in Winnemucca for many years including the Getchell Mine and the Winnemucca Laundry. His true passion was farming. He managed the Jungo Ranches for 30 years until he retired in 2006. Frank loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, horseback riding and raising live-stock. More than anything Frank was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy. He enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors and his love of horses with his children and grandchildren. He felt that his greatest accomplishment in life was his daughters and his grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his daughter, Sylvia Ochoa, sisters Ramona Cortez, Maria Iniguez, Tina Iniguez, Virginia Iniguez, brother Toribio Iniguez. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Francey Ochoa, his daughters Nancy (Michael) Jurad of Winnemucca, Alicia (Bubba) Prokasky, grandchildren Brycen & Sylvie Prokasky, of Cortez of Oxnard, Calif., Lupe Ruezga of Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico, Juanita Iniguez of Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico, Aurora Iniguez of Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico, Antonio Iniguez of Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico and numerous nieces and nephews.
Frank had a huge heart and was always willing to help friends and strangers alike, without expecting anything in return. Frank's kindness, generosity, sense of humor and warm smile will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
A rosary is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at 7 p.m. and Funeral, Saturday, Nov. 14,2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Winnemucca Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Lovelock Funeral Home.
MRS. JOYCE R. OLAY
Joyce Ruth Olay, 74, of Winnemucca since 1962, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at her home. She was born on Aug. 2, 1934, in East Liverpool, Ohio, the child of Arthur and Naomi (Heron) Kindsvatter. Joyce married Louis Olay and moved to Winnemucca in September 1962. In her years as a resident, Joyce worked at a variety of jobs; she was a manager at Raley's for over 17 years, a corrections officer at juvenile hall and a bartender at Sundance Casino.
Joyce will be remembered as someone gruff but loveable. A straight shooter that "Told it like it was." She is missed by a son, Louis (Barbara), a daughter, Maria and two grandchildren, Truman and Spencer.
At her request there will be no formal services or flowers. Love and God bless to all of her family and friends. Lovelock Funeral Home handled arrangements.
MRS. NORMA A. OLSON
Norma Anne Godfrey Jones Olson, 77, of Winnemucca, died Dec. 31, 2007, at Humboldt General Hospital. Norma was born Oct. 3, 1930, in Malta, Mont., to John and Dorothy (Salsbery) Godfrey. She attended a one-room school in Freewater, Mont., and high school in Malta. She married Fred Jones in 1946 and they had five children. They divorced and Norma then married Martin Olson in 1982. She has resided in Winnemucca for the past seven years, coming from Sandpoint, Idaho, where she lived from 1978 to 2000. Prior to that she had lived in Sacramento, Calif., from 1962-1978.
Norma is survived by her Husband: Martin of Winnemucca. Sons: John R. Jones and wife Darlene of Elko, Dale G. Jones of Roseburg, Ore. Daughters: Mary Lynn Jones and companion Charles Irwin of Willow, AK., Jaccque J. Jones and companion Butch Cissney of Redding, Calif, and Debra R. Merriweather and husband David of Boise, Idaho. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
A graveside service was held Jan. 3, 2008, at the Winnemucca Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Winnemucca Senior Center, 1480 Lay St., Winnemucca, NV. 89445, in memory of Norma Olson. Albertson Funeral Home cared for the arrangements.
MR. FERRELL W. OWENS
Ferrell William Owens, born 1934; died 2007.
A memorial service for Ferreil William Owens, 73 of Trinity, Ala., was held Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at Lawrence Funeral Home with Bob Lawrimore and Teddy Owens officiating.
Mr. Owens died on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at NHC Healthcare of Moulton, Ala., and was born July 4, 1934, in Lawrence County to Theo Richard Owens and Audrey Lindy Terry Owens.
He retired as the owner of Owens Ford-Mercury in Winnemucca; he also served as a medic in the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church in Decatur, Ala.
Ferrell was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Phillip and James and is survived by his brother Teddy, his nephew Heath Bynum, several aunts and uncles and a special friend, Jean Sherrill of Moulton, Ala.
