MR. JOHN M. FILIPPINI
John Martin Filippini. 71 years old, entered into rest on Feb. 16, 2008, in Battle Mountain.
John was born on July 27, 1936, and was raised in Battle Mountain. He was a 1954 graduate from Battle Mountain High School.
Starting in August of 1960 John spent two years in the Army serving his country. In October 1964, he married Billie DeLong and they moved to the Chillers Ranch where they resided for over four years.
In 1969 he moved his family to the Carico Lake Ranch where they continue to reside.
John is survived by his wife of 43 years, Billie and two sons: Johnny (wife Malea) and Jim (wife Mindy). His three grandchildren: ICaylee Filippini, Quade Filippini and Quinn Filippini. His brother, Henry Filippini, and numerous nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Rose Filippini. Services were held at the Battle Mountain Civic Center on Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.

MR. LEE KILLEEN
Sept. 24, 1950 — Feb. 21, 2008
Lee was born in Los Angeles, Calif, to Howard Lee Killeen and Alma Rosa Boecker Killeen. He was the youngest of five children.
Lee was raised in Gibbonsville, Idaho, by his grandparents Harry and Doris Linn, along with his brother Robert and sister Jackie after a traffic accident took their mother and brother William.
Lee's education began in Mrs. Rainey's one room school house in Gibbonsville. He graduated from Salmon High School and attended college in Laramie, Wyo.
Growing up at the ranch Lee taught himself to play the guitar. He played and sang at the Let's Stop Inn in Salmon, Idaho, which began a life long love of music.
After college he formed a three-piece band and they toured Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Wyoming and New Mexico for the next 12 years.
In 1978, Lee found the town that he wanted to make his home. He loved Battle Mountain and the people. He moved his fifth wheel to a lot beside Grandma Shelton's house and started working for the Barite mine, Emco. He later continued his long mining career with Battle Mountain Gold.
When Battle Mountain Gold shut down he went to work for Lander County Road and Bridge, Transystems and the Humboldt County School District.
During his time in Battle Mountain, Lee formed many other musical groups. They played at loca! clubs and were the regular talent for the party at the park for the 3rd of July.
Lee was very involved in the community giving of himself and lending his knowledge to teach many others. He became a member of the Battle Mountain Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter/EMT/Hazmat Technician, where he held many offices over the years such as secretary, chief, training officer and anything else that needed done.
He was also a member of the Battle Mountain Hospital Board, LEPC and a reserve deputy for the Lander County Sheriff's Office. Lee has taught firefighters and EMT's in Utah and all over the State of Nevada conducting training for local agencies and the State Fire Marshall's Office.
Lee loved his communities but most of all he loved his family. His wife Louise was the light of his life. They were married for 25 years.
Lee was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother William. He is survived by his wife Louise, Brother Robert Killeen (Sandra), Sisters Jackie Couch and Joanne Montonya. Children Michelle Nevarez (Jesse), Donald VanKomen (Deborah), Tom VanKomen (Lori), Will Killeen Patrick. Grandchildren, Misty, Sarah, Korey, Audrey, Rodney, Rachael, Cora and Jessie. Great-granddaughter Pamela and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Winnemucca Convention Center.

MR. ROBERT BURTON
Robert "BOBCAT" Burton was born June 20, 1927, to Bob and Nona Hall Burton in Austin, He was the fourth oldest of 15 children.
In his younger years, he worked at various ranches in the Austin and Tuscarora area as a cowboy. He participated in many rodeos throughout Nevada. Then in 1950 he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a military police officer and transferred to Korea.
When he returned home in 1952, he worked for various mines, and for the Fish & Wildlife as a trapper, which he took over his dad's position. Then he worked for the Nevada Dept. of Transportation in Austin. Then in 1966 he met his
best friend and life-long partner Carlene. Then they moved to Battle Mountain, where they made their home.
He was a self-employed person, which he enjoyed trapping, mining turquoise, drilling with Parson Drilling and later helped take care of the Rest Areas in Beowawe, Valmy and Button Point with his wife and family.
His favorite things to do was to spend time with his family and mostly teaching his grandchildren the facts of life, traveling to different places, attending traditional ceremonies, hunting and playing handgames and most of all making new friends and making it a life-long friendship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and an Uncle Tommie Charley. He is survived by his wife Carlene, daughter Roberta (Chair), son Lew (Virg), grandchildren Derek Kelly, Nellie Ike, Cona Jackson, three brothers, six sisters, numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
He entered into rest on March 11, 2008, at 5 p.m., at the Humboldt General Hospital in Winnemucca. No funeral services per his wishes. Memorial Services will be held in Battle Mountain at the Battle Mountain Junior High School at 11 a.m., immediately followed by a traditional feed. Then at 3 p.m. his body will be placed to rest on Bald Mountain in Austin.
