The following information is from The History of Charlestown, N.H., the old Fort No. 4 by Rev. Saunderson:

Capt. Ephraim Wetherbe the progenitor of the Wetherbe family of Charlestown NH m. Joanna Bellows dau of Benjamin Bellows and his wife, Dorcas (Cutler) Willard widow of Henry Willard 4th son of Major Simon Willard.

Capt. Ephraim Wetherbe and his wife Joanna (Bellows) Wetherbe had issue:
l. Rachel Wetherbe m. Deacon Thomas Putnam.
2. Jonathan Wetherbe (one of the proprietors of Charlestown under the N.H. Charter.)
3. Abigail Wetherbe m. (1) James Nutting Willard son of Lieut Moses Willard and his wife, Susanna Willard
She m. (2) Capt. Isaac Farwell. She m. (3) J. B. Olive
4. Susanna Wetherbe m. Thomas Little Res: Peterboro, NH and then Lunenburg, MA

5. Joanna Wetherbe m. Col. William Heywood as his 2d wife
6. Capt. Samuel Wetherbe
7. Abijah Wetherbe (one of the grantees under N.H. Charter)

Note: Joanna (Bellows) Wetherbe d. Aug 26, 1762 at age 55 yrs. Capt. Ephraim Wetherbe died previously to his wife's death but at what time has not been ascertained. He was one of the original proprietors of No. 4 under the MA Grant. Only two others of the proprietors under the MA Grant settled at No. 4, Capt. Phineas Stevens and Stephen Farnsworth. Of his children, Capt Samuel Wetherbe, Abijah Wetherbe and Jonathan Wetherbe settled ultimately in Concord, Vt.

Capt. Samuel Wetherbe 6th child of Capt. Ephraim Wetherbe was born Apr. 3, 1745 at Lunenburg, MA. He m. Susanna Johnson, dau of Capt. James Johnson and his wife, Susanna (Willard) Johnson, who was taken prisoner Aug 30, 1754 and carried to Montreal, Canada. She did not return to the Fort until 1760. Capt. Samuel Wetherbe was an active patriot in the war of the Revolution. When a regiment was raised in July 1776, under Col. Isaac Wyman of Keene for the army in Canada, he rec'd a commisssion of captain of Company No. 5. They joined the northern army of New York. He was also active in promoting the union of the towns east of the Conn. River with the State of Vermont. After removing to Concord, Vt. where he was a large proprietor and among the lst settlers he represented the town in the yrs 1797, 1799 1800, 180l 1802 1803 and 1806. He was also one of the Assistant Judges of the County Court for the years 1803, 1804 1805 and 1809. His children:

l. Susanna Wetherbe b. Aug 4, 1770 m. 1797 Major Jonathan Baker, son of Osmyn Baker.
2. Jason Wetherbe b. June 8, 1772 m. 1793 Sophia Farwell dau of Capt. Isaac Farwell and Abigail (Wetherbe) Willard Farwell. Their children:

l. Sophia Wetherbe m. 1817 Oel Billings Res: Royalton, Vt. and later at Woodstock Vt.
2.Isaac Wetherbe b. 1797 m. Mitty Tuffts of Charlestown MA She b. 1797 Res: Charlestown, NH Their children:

l. Anne Tuffts Wetherbe b. 1820 m. Samuel H. Grinnell
2. Abby B. Wetherbe b. 1822 m. Josiah White
3. George Wetherbe b. 1827 Res: N.Y.C.
4. Eliza Wetherbe b. 1829 m. David A. Gage of Chicago
5. Sophia Wetherb b. 1836

Isaac Wetherbe's wife died Sept. 1859 and he removed to Boston and m. Mrs. Louisa Clark


Jason Wetherbe d. in Canada in 1845 aged 73 His wife d. 1855, age 80.
