I would like to say a few words about my life in grand old New Mexico. My husband Belver, and I and our five year old son, Cleatis, came to Hobbs on July 28, 1935 to visit Belver's brother, Willie.

Belver went to work as a pressman for the old Daily and Sun Down News which later became the Hobbs Daily News-Sun. Living conditions in Hobbs at that were very poor. For sometime we had an apartment at the old Flag Sun Camp at the corner of the present Post Office. Belver also served on the volunteer fire department.

Belver and I put ion the Hobbs Printing Company in 1946, now part of the Daily News-Sun. We both worked there until his retirement in 1972, and I still work there. Belver worked for the company for 37 years. He passed away March 20, 1982 at the age of 78. He is buried in Prairie Haven Cemetery. His parents were Jim and Ruie Davis from Van Buren, Arkansas.

My parents were J. L. and Eva May from Bell County, Texas. Belver and I married in Alustee, Oklahoma, December 5, 1926.

Cleatis, our son, is Theatre Manager for the Civic Center in El Paso, Texas. He married Ethelene Steed, July 3, 1953. She is manager for an insurance company. They have three children, Georgia, Candy and David. We have seen Hobbs grow from a wide place in the road to a beautiful city. We are happy to have New Mexico as our home.
