H. (Lipsey) Lafferty Return to the Return to the
JOHN ANNIS LAFFERTY FAMILY

with Children: Mary Eliza, Sophronia,
and Sarah L.
John Annis Lafferty was a Methodist
Preacher of the Lincoln County area. Born 11 Sept 1883 in
Carollton, Carroll County, Arkansas, he relocated with two
sisters to Parker County and later with his wife and two young
children he returned to Arkansas with his in-laws to bring back
their widowed daughter and children. There John and Mary had
another daughter. They returned settling in Wise county with
their father-in-law and had another child, a son this time.
Then moved to Young County, Texas where several more chidlren
were born. When the children were grown his yougest son
relocated to New Mexico where he talked his family into moving
there. John and Mary then moved with their daughter to Lincoln
County, New Mexico in the early 1900's. Their other son William and
family followed them there. There they farmed and
ranched.
John Annis Lafferty died 26 April 1911
on his ranch near Richardson with only his wife Mary Hannah Lipsey
Lafferty, daughter Sophronia and younest son James
Annis.
Mary Lipsey Lafferty was born in Johnson County,
Indiana 31 July 1945 and her family were early settlers of Wise
County Texas. She raised her family in Parker County Texas and
from there moved to New Mexico with a trip to the Texas
Panahande and into Oklahoma. They purchased land near their
children. William Binks Lafferty and wife Mary Della McKenny
and family, and also their daughter Sophronia Lafferty and son James
Annis Lafferty.
Grandmother Mary Hannah Lipsey was
burried at the Cemetery near the School in Slaton, New Mexico.There
are 8 graves there, hers is the third one from the South West
Corner, second row. She was living with her youngest son James Annis
Lafferty and his wife when she died.
Her death
registration is listed in the Chaves county archives as
Lafferty, Mary H. 72 Roswell, New Mexico Housekeeper, died of
Acute Indigestion, Nov 16, 1917.
William
Binks Lafferty was murdered by thieves on the Capital Mountain while
checking out his land (18 April 1873-7 Mar 1909). Leaving a
wife and six young children. Sophronia outlived her
parents and moved to Black Mountains, Near Ruidoso, NM where she
died unmarried without issue - 12 Dec 1869 in Arkansas died 4 Nov
1918.
