Marriage Notices of Hudson County, New Jersey

On Saturday evening the 5th inst. by the Rev. John Duryea, Mr.
John Cole, to Miss Rebecca Clendene, both of the City of Jersey. [The Centinel of Freedom, June 15,1819 - submitted by Dena Whitesell]

Col.
Joseph P. Frisbie and Mrs. Eliza Griffin were married in Grace Church, Jersey City, on Monday. As the happy pair were leaving the church, the groom was arrested on a charge of bigamy, at the instance of the bride’s brother. The party were driven to the Police Station and after a hearing the Colonel was bound over to appear and answer the charge. It appears that his wife procured a divorce from him ten years ago, the decree prohibiting him from marrying again. The wife remarried some time since, and now the ex-husband evidently thinks he should be permitted to try it again. [The Bucks County Gazette (Bristol, Pennsylvania) September 9, 1875 - Submitted by Nancy Piper]
