March 1, 1882 - J.H. Miller, a musician of Philipsburg, came home in rather a muddled
state a few nights ago, and in attempting to go down stairs for something to eat, stumbled and fell, the
lamp which he held in his hand breaking and spilling the burning oil all over him. He was severely scorched, and
would have burned to death but for assistance. [submitted by Shauna Williams]
January 8, 1882?-A son of Joseph Hoff, who resides in Warren county, touched the iron
fence in front of his father's residence, with his tongue, one bitter cold morning recently, and, as a matter of
course, it froze fast to the wire. The little fellow yelled with pain, and it was some time before he could extricate
himself; and when he did he was compelled to leave part of his tongue sticking to the wire.
