Phelps, yesterday took up the duties of pastor at the Presbyterian
church at Batavia.

WAR HERO AND
STATE TROPPER ARRESTED
Arthur Finnernan,
formerly a member of the state police at Batavia and George
Salzman, a member of the British flying corps during the world
war, and who claims to have been a federal enforcement officer, were
[undecipherable] seized on bench warrants at [undecipherable] yesterday.
Finnernan is charged with driving a car while intoxicated and of
transporting liquor. Salzman is accused of carrying and flourishing a
revolver. The arrests grew out of an incident in which two men were
seriously injured, their car overturned after being struck by another
machine alleged to have been operated by Finnernan. Salzman is alleged
to have drawn a revolver when police tried to arrest Finnernan.

Batavia Hospital to Be Opened on June
23
Batavia (AP) – The new $1,000,000
veterans’ hospital will be formally opened Saturday, June 23, it was
announced today.
The hospital completed last
Jan. received its first patients about a month ago. The formal opening
ceremonies will be attended by Brigadier General Frank T.
Hines, Veteran’s administrator, and members of his Washington
staff.
