Slave to Nicholas Staring
Herkimer, January 11.
Shocking Catastrophe
A Negro Boy about fifteen years old, slave to Nicholas Staring, of the town of Schuyler, in the County of Herkimer, having been lately found dead, and precipitatedly buried, which occasioned a strong suspicion in the neighborhood, that his death was the effect of cruelty and violence. On the 2d day January instant, the Coroner summoned a jury, and had the body taken up and examined, and went into an extensive and particular examination of witnesses, whereupon the Jury pronounced, that he had been murdered by his master the said Nicholas Staring, who has since been apprehended, and is now secured in Herkimer gaol.
