Rev. Mother Superior Anastasia Dies at Lockpot
Lockport,
Jan 23 – Rev. Mother Superior Anastasia died at St. Joseph’s Convent
last night, aged 75 years.
She was mother superior of the Sisters of
St. Mary of the United States and Canada
Last September she
celebrated the 50th anniversary of her consecration.

Elizabeth S (Betty) Bauer, 86, of Storrs, wife of the late James M. Bauer, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, July 19, 2009. Betty was born in Niagara Falls, NY, to Elizabeth and William Jenks. She received a B.S. in Nursing and Home Economics from Michigan State College and Simmons College.
She married Jim Bauer in 1948, and worked as a Public Health Nurse in Niagara Falls, NY and White Plains, NY. They moved to Storrs in 1952 and she went back to school at the University of Connecticut and received a M.S. in Community Health Nursing in 1977. She worked as a Visiting Public Health Nurse in Mansfield for many years.
During university summer break, Betty and Jim and family and friends enjoyed their cottage on Long Lake in the Adirondacks, and after retirement stayed as long as the weather allowed. Betty and Jim made annual cross-country trips to visit friends and family. She enjoyed painting and woodcarving, and playing tennis and bridge.
Betty leaves a brother Bill Jenks, two sons, Bill and David, a predeceasing son Jamie, who with his wife Joyce gave them three granddaughters, Christina, Sarah and Rebecca, and great-grandchildren Bethany, Julia, Kyle and Jonathon. A grandson by marriage, Richard, gave them another great-grandchild, Ian.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held September 21, 2009 at 4:00 p.m at the Storrs Congregational Church.

Foeley, of Niagara county, and present county clerk, died this morning
at her home in this city of heart disease.

Girl is Among Dead, Dying On Way to Hospital After Machine Goes Into
Ditch
Buffalo, N.Y., May 22 – (I.N.S.) – Three persons are dead, one
is dying and three others suffering from severe burns as the result of
an automobile accident in a ditch eight miles outside Lockport on the
Campbell Boulevard.
The dead are: Kathleen Fairbanks, 20, of
Jamestown, N.Y., living at the Y.W.C.A., Kenmore, Melbourne Gooding, 23,
of Lockport, and Wesley Krinkle, 20, of Lockport.
The injured are:
Blanche Sobetzer, 19 years old, of Buffalo, who is in a critical
condition from a skull fracture and internal injuries, John Rouse, of
Lockport, burned and bruised. Edwin Sands, 21 years old, of Buffalo,
burned on the face, head, shoulders and arms, and Lyman H. Wight, 35
years old, of Buffalo, burned on the hands and arms. All four are in the
Lockport City Hospital.
The machine, driven by Rouse, fell into a
ditch while the party was enroute from Buffalo to attend a dance at
Olcott Beach. The gasoline tank was punctured and the car caught fire
immediately. The three men who survived were burned dragging the others
from the car.
Gooding was killed instantly. Krinkle died while on the
way to the hospital and Miss Fairbanks lived only a short while after
her arrival at the Lockport institution.
