NEWSPAPER TIDBITS

1831

BATH, (Steuben co.) Nov. 16.
MYSTERIOUS. - The remains of a dead body, clad in female attire, were found on Saturday the 12th inst. in the town of Howard, in this county, 4 miles south of the Turnpike Road leading from Bath to Angelica, by a party of hunters, in the woods about three miles from any house. An inquest was held  upon the body at the place where it was found, on Sunday; and from one of the Jurors we learn the following facts respecting the appearance of the deceased: The only articles of clothing were a tow or linen frock, very strong, and buttoned upon the back waist with 3 buttons - a cotton shirt, and blue calico vandyke - no appearance of shoes, stockings, or bonnet - nothing like flesh or skin remained; but from appearances it was supposed that the body had not been there more than 3 months; deceased had lost 2 teeth from the left side of the upper jaw, in front; but little hair remained - colour, dark brown, or black; appeared to be a female of full ordinary size and height.
