LIPSON, PEARL
CHAPEL HILL, NC -- Pearl Lipson died June 3rd at the Carolina Meadows Health Center. Born 1911 in Louisville, KY., she spent most of her adult life in Sullivan County, NY., where she was an English professor at the community college. She loved the literature she taught and her warmth and empathy were deeply felt by her many students. Her fundamental decency and honesty were her true legacy. A lover of plants with her own greenhouse she was instrumental in making the college greenhouse a reality. Her home was the focus for members of the academic community visiting the college. Pearl was a founder of the community cooperative dance school and a children's summer day program. Active in community affairs she always worked for a better world. She was a broadcaster for the blind on Radio Vision and a member of ACLU and Amnesty International. For years she led a book study group with an impact well beyond the books themselves. From time to time she contributed book reviews themselves. From time to time she contributed book reviews to the Middletown Record.

In accordance with her wish she has been cremated. A memorial will be held at her Masten Lake, NY., summer home Labor Day; where she will be buried.
