The Lima News- January 18, 1950

Mrs. Zada A. Miller, 52 wife of Jacob P. Miller, died at 1 a.m. Wednesday in her home, three and a half miles northeast of Delphos. She had been ill two months. Mrs. Miller was born Aug. 28, 1897, and was married Mar. 26, 1917, to Jacob P. Miller. She was a member of the Bethel Evangelical United Brethren church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. David Evans, Mrs. Henry Markley and Mrs. Thomas Oglesbee, all of Route 3, Delphos; a son Robert, at home; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Everett Jamison, Route 3, Delphos. Final rites will be in the Bethel EUB church at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Walnut Grove cemetery. The body will be removed Wednesday evening from Harter and Son funeral home here to the residence.


The Lima News- January 16, 1950

Mrs. Mae Elizabeth Crow, 57, of 415 N. Collett-st, died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday in Memorial hospital. She had been a surgical patient since Nov. 11. Mrs. Crow was born Sept. 30, 1892 in New London, and was employed at Memorial hospital. She was a member of the First Church of God, Trinity Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Ladies auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainsmen Ladies society of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman and Engineers and the Daughters of America. Her husband, Leroy E., died in 1944. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Aaron Blank, Mrs. Robert Davis, both of Lima, a brother Frank J. Smith of Willard, a sister Mrs. Marcus Tomlinson of Shelby and two grandchildren. The body will remain in Chiles and Son funeral home until 1 p.m. Wednesday, then to be removed to the First Church of God. Services will be at 2 p.m. with the Rev. D.R. Lovely officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.


The Lima News- January 16, 1950

John H. Toomey, 77, of 624 Hazel-av, died at 2:10 p.m. Sunday in St. Rita's hospital, after a two-month illness. He was born in Lima, Dec. 26, 1872, and was a retired boiler inspector for the Baltimore and Ohio and Pere Marquette rail-roads. Mr. Toomey was a member of St. Rose Catholic church and the Holy Name society of the church. Surviving are two sons, Alfred J., Delphos, and Robert J. of  Lima; two daughters, Miss Mary A. Toomey, and Mrs. Francis J. Grifftiths, both of  Lima. Requiem high mass will be sung at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Rose church, with Msgr. James Elder as celebrant. Burial will be in Gethsemani cemetery. The body will remain in Hogenkamp funeral home until services.


The Lima News- January 14, 1950

William Justice, 77, 103 1/2 E. Pearl-st, died of a heart attack at 8:30 p.m. Friday in St. Rita's hospital. He suffered the attack about 6:30 p.m. at Main and Wayne-sts. Born in Auglaize-co, June 7, 1872, Mr. Justice lived in Lima 38 years. His wife Ida, died in 1948. Surviving are a son Enos, Upland, Ind., a daughter, Mrs. Ellen Trego, Wapakoneta; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body will in Chiles and Son funeral home pending completion of arrangements.


Lawrence Mauk, 77, of 719 Weadock-av, died at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Rita's hospital after a one month's illness. Born Dec. 26, 1872 in Pennsylvania, he lived in Versailles for many years, moving to Lima two years ago. Mr. Mauk was a retired mail carrier. Surviving are a son Ralph, with whom he resided; three brothers and a sister. Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Miller funeral home, Versailles, with burial in Greenalwn cemetery there. The body will remain in the funeral home until burial.


The Lima News- January 10, 1950

D.S. Evans, 75, of two miles northwest of Gomer, died at 8 p.m. Monday in Memorial hospital, where he had been admitted Friday. He had been ill six months. Mr. Evans was born Nov. 10, 1874, in Gomer, and retired two years ago from his insurance agency in Gomer. He was a member of the Congregational Christian church in Gomer. Surviving are his widow, Anna McBride Evans, whom he married Jan. 18, 1899; a nephew, Herschel Brenneman at home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Gomer church, with the Rev. Aaron Downs officiating. Burial will be in Gomer cemetery. The body will remain in Harter and Son funeral home, Delphos until services.


The Lima News- January 8, 1950

Mrs. Barbara Mae Spees Wood, 63, of 414 S. Scott-st, died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday in Memorial hospital. She had been ill for two years. Mrs. Wood was born Aug. 18, 1886, in Allen-co. Her husband, Roy L., survives. Other survivors are three sons, Arthur, Dale, and Kennard Spees all of Lima a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Steinhour, Lima; a step-son Lester L. Wood, and a step-daughter, Miss Rose B. Wood, both of Allen-co; her mother, Mrs. Mary Armentrout, Lima; seven sisters, Mrs. Laura Bowers, Mrs. Maggie Neville, Mrs. Etta Shelley, Mrs. Vernon First, Mrs. Ruth Daniels, Mrs. Stella Gatton and Mrs. Lucille Thomas, all of Lima; three brothers, D.P., Jesse and Emmett Armentrout, all of Lima; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Davis-Miller and Son Cathedral chapel with Rev. E.J. Penhorwood officiating. Place of burial will be announced later. The body will remain in the funeral home until burial.


The Lima News- January 9, 1950

Final rites for Mrs. Sarah M. Reinhart, 69, of 942 N. West-st, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Davis-Miller and Son Cathedral chapel. The Rev. Vernon Van Buren will officiate and burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Mrs. Reinhart was found dead at 1 p.m. Sunday in her home by her son, David E., 1700 N. West-st. Death which occurred at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, was attributed to a heart attack. she had been under physician's care for some time, it was learned. Her husband Elmer Reinhart, died Nov. 18, 1936. In addition to her son David, she is survived by another son, C. W., of Lima; a brother, Henry Radley, Oklahoma City, Okla., and a granddaughter. The body will remain at the funeral home until after services.


The Lima News -June 3, 1940

 

Fred J Pflum, of 714 S. McDonel-st died at 7 a.m. Monday on his 74th birthday, at St. Rita’s hospital from complications following a lingering illness. He was admitted to the hospital a week ago.
Pflum, a life-long resident of Lima , was a retired Nickel Plate railroad employe. He was a member of St. Johns Catholic church and the Holy Name Society.
Surviving are his wife, Sophia; and two brothers, Charles and Harry both of Lima .
Requiem high mass will be celebrated at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at St. Johns church with
Rev. Fr. Albert A. Fate, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the family plot in Gethsemani cemetery.
The body will remain at the Cantwell funeral home until time of services.


The Lima News - June 3, 1940

Mrs. Annetta Heffern, widow of P.J. Heffern, died of paralysis at 1030 a.m. in Memorial
Hospital. Mrs. Heffern, a resident of Lima for the past 60 years, resided at 444 E. McKibben-st with her son, Harry Taflinger, Lima fire chief.
Besides her son she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Tom Townsend of Lima ; two grandchildren, Howard Taflinger and Mrs. Russell Snapp, both of Lima ; one great-grandson; and one sister, Mrs. Mary McPheron, both of Lima.
The body will remain at the Davis-Miller and Son funeral home where services will

The Lima News- June 3, 1940

Don C. Byrd, 57, of 545 S. West-st, died Sunday in the Lima district hospital after an illness of one year. Byrd, a resident of Lima for the past 53 years had formerly been an Engineer with the Nickel Plate railroad and the Lima Locomotive Works. He is survived by his wife, Nellie; one daughter Virginia Ann of Columbus , and a son Lee of Delware; and three grand-children. The body will remain at the Lewis funeral home where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. E.T. Bowdle will officiate and burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.


Beaverdam – June 5, 1940

 

Mrs. Lillian Ransbottom Sawmiller, of Beaverdam died at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage following a weeks’ illness. She was born June 10, 1874 in Allen-co. Mrs. Sawmiller was first married to Ed Cotner, deceased, and then to Irwin Sawmiller in 1906.
Besides Sawmiller she is survived by a son, D.F. Cotner, of Findlay ; a half-brother Kenneth Wingate, of Eastland , Texas ; and three grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements in charge of the Dill funeral home, Bluffton, are incomplete.
** Burial in Liberty Chapel cemetery, south of Beaverdam.
