Dec 1, 1950

Walter M. Markle, 45, of 772 E. Elm-st, died at 3:30 a.m. Friday in the District Tuberculosis hospital following two years illness. He was formerly employed as maintenance man at the Superior Coach Corp. and is survived by a sister, Mrs. Fae Martin, with whom he lived, and a brother Clay Markle, Route 3. The body will remain at the Sowards funeral home until after services at 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Stanley McGilliard, pastor of Epworth Methodist church will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ozro S. Copus, 76, Route 4. Lima, died at 2 a.m. Saturday in his home after an illness of four months.
He was born in Elida and was a retired employee of the Lima-Hamilton Corp. Surviving are his widow, Olive; six sons, Glen and Chester, Route 4; Arthur, Route 1; Earl. 516 N. Kenilworth-av; Clarence, Route 3, and Clair, 220 1/2 S. Baxter-st; three daughters, Mrs. Ira Shields, Route 3; Ruth, at home; Mrs. Lawrence Sheldon, Tulsa, Okla; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs, Resa Peltier, Route 2, Delphos.
The body will remain in Davis-Miller and Son funeral home for services at 2 p.m. Monday in the Cathedral chapel. The Rev. E.I. Obee will officiate and burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Elida.

Mrs. Matilda I. Jones, 83, died at 9:15 a.m. Sunday in her home, 424 E. Albert-st, following a year's illness. She was born in Putnam-co, and was a charter member of the Gomer Presbyterian church.
Three children survive, Mrs. Cecil Williams of the Albert-st address; Arnold of Route 1, Elida, and Willis, 111 W. Elm-st. The body will remain at the Davis-Miller and Son funeral home until services at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Gomer Presbyterian church. Burial will take place in Gomer cemetery. The Rev. Arthur Hughes, Delphos, will officiate.

John W. Newell, 83, Lima resident for more than 60 years and retired Standard Oil Co., employee, died at his home at 118 S. Collett-st at 8 a.m. Sunday. He was born in Sherman, N.Y., Feb 20, 1867, and was a member of Trinity Methodist church board of trustees.
Mr. Newell was a member of Lima lodge No. 205 F and AM; Lima chapter No. 49, RAM; Lima, council No. 20 R and SM; Shawnee Commandery, KT Toledo Consistory; Toledo Zenobia Shrine, Lima Shrine club, and was the first monarch of el Karan Grotto. He also held membership in the Modern Woodmen.
Surviving are his widow, Nellie; one son, Raymond F., Schenectady, N.Y.; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Wallace, Route 5, and Mrs. Doris Holland, South Ozone Park, L.I., N.Y., Clay Cotterman, Route 5, is a stepson. The body will remain at the Lewis funeral home until services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Dr. J. Ira Jones, pastor of Trinity church oddiciating. The Rev. Willard Thomas will be soloist. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Members of Shawnee Commandry will conduct services at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Hugo O. Watt, 57, native of Lafayette, died in Veterans hospital, Dayton, following an illness of three years.A veteran of both World War I and II he had served with the Merchant Marines.Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Robert C. Roe, Bowling Green; and Mrs. Charles Schaaf, Muncie, Ind.; three nephews and a niece. The body will remain at the Davis-Miller and Son funeral home in the Cathedral chapel with Rev. J.W. Berger officiating. Burial will be in Lafayette cemetery.

Final rites for Mrs. Anna Case, 72, of 618 Faurot-av, widow of Ed Case, who died at 4 a.m. Friday in St. Rita's hospita; will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Davis-Miller and Son Cathedral chapel with Dr. J. ira Jones officiating. Burial in Woodlawn cemetery. Mrs. Case, a native of Jasper-co, Ind., died following an illness of three months. Her husband died in August of 1946. She was a member of Trinity Methodist church and the Order of Eastern Star in Lima. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Della Peregrine, Hamlet, Ind., and Mrs. Lulu DeArmond, North Judson, Ind., and a nephew, Don Peregrine, Hamlet, Ind. The body will remain at the funeral home until time of services.

Spencerville

Mrs. Rachael McMichael, 85, of this community, died in the Hope Lawn convalescent home here at 6:35 a.m. Sunday following an illness of several years duration. She was a member of the Baptist church. Surviving are a son, Walter M. of Lima, a daughter, Mrs. Glen Hemmingway, Three Rivers, Mich., seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. The body will remain at the C. B. Miller and Son funeral home until time of services. Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Spencerville Baptist church with Rev. Fara Laman, officiating. Burial in Spencerville cemetery.

William Watson, 77, of 1107 W. Spring-st died at 5:25 p.m. Friday in Memorial hospital following a heart attack. He was admitted to the hospital at 2:20 p.m. Funeral arrangements in charge of the Patterson funeral home. Burial in the Lutheran cemetery.

Joseph H. Clevenger, 87, died at 10 p.m. Monday at his home in Joliet, 12 miles southeast of Lima, where he had resided his entire life. He was a member of the Borrowed Time club and the Salem Methodist church.Surviving are his wife; two sons, Declare at home, Miles M. of Cleveland; two daughters, Mrs. Hillis Brown of Lima, and Mrs. Porter Shane of Auglaize-tp; and a sister, Mrs. Maria Cook of Waynesfield. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Salem cemetery chapel with Rev. F. Melvin Wentz of Harrod officiating.. Burial will be in Salem cemetery, with arrangements in charge of the Sowards funeral home. The body will be removed Wednesday to the residence to remain until time of services.

Lima relatives have received word of the death Sunday in Paris, Calif. of Clyde Leffel, 65, a former resident here. Surviving are his widow, Sadie; two daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Lida) Beggs, of Lima, and Miss Alberta Leffel, Paris, Calif., a son Granville in California and his father Phillip Leffel of Lima. Services and burial will be in California.

Mrs. Ida May Watt Hardesty, 77, of 123 E. Vine-st, died in a Toledo hospital at 4:30 p.m. Sunday following an extended illness. A lifelong resident of this community, she was the widow of Julius Hardesty. She was a member of the Christian Missionary and Alliance church. Surviving are three sons. Ray and Harry Watt, both of Lima and Rev. Floyd Watt of Dayton; a brother, Martin Taylor, Indiana, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The body will remain at the Siferd and Son Colonial chapel for services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. V. H. Allman will officiate and burial will be in Shawnee cemetery.

Spencerville

Samuel Sylvester Strayer, 79, of six miles northeast of here, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in his home following an illness of a year. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He was a member of the Zion Methodist church near Spencerville and is survived by his widow, Almeda; two sons, Gale and Lloyd both of Elida, three daughters, Mrs. Clyde Thomas, Elida, Clara and Eunice at home; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Adaline Bussert, Delphos, and Mrs. Clara A. Rousch, of Elida. The body will be removed from the C. B. Miller and Son funeral home here to the residence Monday evening to remain until services. Final rites will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Zion Methodist church with Rev. Leland S. Wiley offiiciating. Burial will be in Hartford cemetery.

John D. Jackson, 77 of 436 Runyan-av, died at his home at 3:40 a.m. Sunday following an illness of two weeks. He was born in Auglaize-co and had been a farmer. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Harvey Geach, Lima, Mrs. C. H. Collins, Dayton, and Mrs. C. P. McFarland, Los Angeles; two sons Clifford and Lewis both of Lima; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Mary Linson, Springfield. The body will remain at the Davis-Miller and Son funeral home for final rites at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Cathedral chapel with Rev. Warren H. Bright, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
