Freeman Rice was probably a relative living with the James Rice family in 1850. 1850 Fed Census for South Brown Township, Vinton County, OH reflects Freeman as born in Indiana. James Rice family did not move to IN until the mid 1850's. All of James children were born in OH. David Rice was living in IN in the 1830's. Freeman died 12 Jan 1919 in Canton, KS. His death certificate reflects his parents as David Rice and Viletta Myrick (not Viletta Keeton). Obituary states "his remains were taken to Cameron, MO". [Obituary "Canton Pilot" 16 Jan 1919 Page 8, Column 5. "Freeman Rice" Freeman Rice was born in Ohio, November 25, 1830, died January 12, 1919, at the age of 88 years, 1 month, 17 days. He moved to Indiana in childhood and lived there till he was married. He moved to Missouri in 1869. His family consisted of five boys and three girls of which one of the daughters, Mrs. Anna Edwards and three sons, E.C. Rice of Evergreen, Colorado, H.E. Rice of Cameron, Missouri and M.E. Rice of Dixon, Illinois, still remain. Mr. Rice has been living here with his daughter, Mrs. Edwards at the hotel where he died Sunday. Twenty-nine grandchildren also survive him. The remains were taken to Cameron, Missouri, Tuesday, accompanied by Mrs. Edwards and H.E. Rice for burial. The family has the sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement. Standard Certificate of Death, # 59-1608, State of Kansas County: McPherson, City: Canton Name of Father: David Rice Name of Mother: Viletta (Sarah) Myrick.]

Viletta Rice (2nd) born 1838. The 1850 Fed Census shows Viletta Rice (2nd) born 1838 living with the James Rice family. There is no record of that individual appearing after 1850. Our family records indicate that James V. Rice (1833) was the youngest child of James and Viletta (Keeton) Rice. I suspect that this Viletta Rice was Francis "Fanny" Rice, Freeman's sister, who's mother died during child birth. In the 1850 Fed Census she is also shown living with her father David Rice in Greene County, Illinois. However, the Vinton County Census was taken 6 Aug 1850 and the Greene County Census was take 16 Nov 1850; more than enough time for her to join her father in Illinois. Frances Rice married Henry E. Olney, 25 Aug 1856, Wapello, Iowa. Find A Grave Memorial # 19782993 applies.
