MRS. ANNA B. BARNETT

Mrs. Anna Bell Barnett, 67, died early today in her home, 1201 Dodge St., following a long illness.

Mrs. Barnett was born in New Matamoras and came to East Liverpool about 15 years ago.  She was a member of the Bradshaw Ave. Church of Christ.

She leaves four sons, Kenneth Barnett of New Matamoras, Guy Barnett, Wayne Barnett and Glenn Barnett of East Liverpool; a brother, John McCollough, and two sisters Mrs. Ollie Smith and Mrs. Dawes Rawlings all of East Liverpool, and nine grandchildren.

Rites will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Martin Funeral Home by Walker Bankes.  Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday afternoon and night at the funeral home.

THOMAS BARNHILL

Services were to be held in the Hinton & Griffith Funeral Home at Canonsburg this afternoon for Thomas Barnhill, 71, a native of Salineville, who died Saturday in his home at Canonsburg, following a long illness.

The services were to be conducted by the Rev. H. Ross Hume, pastor of the Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church.  Burial will be in Oak Spring Cemetery there.

Barnhill was born Aug. 28, 1881, in Salineville, to the late James Carter Barnhill and Elizabeth Elliott Barnhill.  He was a steelworker and was employed in Sharon, Pa., and Elwood, Ind., before going to Canonsburg about 32 years ago.  He worked for the Standard Tin Plate Co., at Canonsburg for 22 years before it suspended in 1942.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Alice Maud Price Barnhill, formerly of Elwood; two sons, James Fred Barnhill at home, and Thomas Barnhill of Canonsburg; a daughter, Mrs. James Barton of New York; a brother, Frank J. Barnhill of Washington, Pa., and a sister, Miss Eva Barnhill of Elwood.

CARROLL I. BECK

Carroll I. Beck, 60, of Salem died Monday night in Salem City Hospital following and eight month illness.  He was the grandfather of Mrs. Floyd Heddleston of Oakmont.

Mr. Beck was a native of Elyria and spent most of his lifetime in Salem where he was employed by the Salem Electric Furnace Co.  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Dads Club of Salem.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Bernetta Beck, two daughters, Mrs. Keith Roessler, and Mrs. John McGuire of Salem, three sons, Irwin Beck and Carroll I. Beck Jr of Salem, and Edwin Beck of Newberry S C and a sister Miss Ethel Beck of Alliance, and 11 grandchildren.

Rites will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. in the Arbaugh-Pearce Funeral Home at Salem by Rev. E. S. Scott, past of the Christian Church. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.

BENJAMIN BERGSCHICKER

Funeral services were to be held in Racine today for Benjamin Bergschicker, 61, former East Liverpool butcher, who died from a heart attack Sunday.

Mr. Bergschicker, who left East Liverpool about 20 years ago, was stricken at the wheel of his auto while he and his wife, the former Ann Ashcraft of East Liverpool, were returning from church services.

Mr. Bergschicker came to East Liverpool following his discharge from the armed services in World War I.  He was employed for many years in the J. Q. Boring Market on Dresden Ave.   Since leaving here, he had conducted his own meat market in Racine, his home city.

Mr. Bergschicker was a member of the American Legion and the Methodist Church.  Besides his widow, he leaves his two sisters, one in Pomeroy and the other in New York.

ALBERT J. BRAGG

Albert J. Bragg, 73, died Sunday noon in the home of his son, William Bragg, of Glendale, Newell, following a two-year illness.

He was born in Braxton County, W. Va., and came to Newell about eight years ago.  He was employed up to 1943 at Plant 6 of the Homer Laughlin China Co.

Mr. Bragg leaves his widow, Mrs. Maud Bragg, five other sons, James Bragg, Aaron Bragg and Frank Bragg of Newell, John Bragg of Canton, and Lester Bragg of East Liverpool; two daughters, Mrs. Hester Gillespie and Mrs. Eula Linger of Newell; four brothers, Jacob Bragg of Triadelphia, W. Va., James A. Bragg of Lost Creek, W. Va., Lloyd Bragg of Clarksburg, W. Va., and Hazel Bragg of Morgantown; five sisters, Mrs. Millie Manypenny and Mrs. Vallie Erwin of Chillicothe, Mrs. Lucy Schreeves of Clarksburg, Mrs. Eliza Crowe and Mrs. Frances Butcher, both of Newell, and 28 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Services will be held tonight at 6 in the Arner Home for Funerals by Rev. Elmer Heath, pastor of the Glendale Mission.  The body will be taken to Caress, W. Va., Tuesday for funeral services in the Lough Church at 3 p. m.  Burial will be there.

VIRGINIA S. BRANT

Long Illness Takes Widow

Mrs. Virginia Brant's Services Set Tuesday

Mrs. Virginia S. Brant, widow of Chester Brant, died Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in her home at 1143 Ohio Ave., following several years' illness.

Mrs. Brant was a native of Racine and had lived in East Liverpool for the last 50 years.  She was a member of the First Methodist church and the Rebekah Lodge.

She leaves a brother, Lester Nease of Centerburg, and two sisters, Miss Nevada Nease at home and Mrs. Frank Usler of East Liverpool.  Her husband died in February 1948.

Rites will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Martin Funeral Home by Rev. Stanley H. Mullen of the First Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

AGNES BRAY

SALINEVILLE, July 25 (Special)-- Mrs. Agnes Bray, 73 widow of William Bray, died Monday at 4 p. m. in her home on Washington Ave. following a long illness.

Born Feb. 1, 1877, Mrs. Bray was a daughter of Robert and Harriett Shomo McCoy of Bolivar, Pa. Her husband died in 1938.

She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown of Salineville and Mrs. Rilla Temme of San Bernardino, Calif., two sons Charles Bray of Bloomingdale and Lawrence Bray at home, two sisters, Mrs. Mary E. George of Salineville and Mrs. Emma Jenkins of youngstown, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Rites will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. in the Faulkener Funeral Home by Rev. Byron A. Wilson of the Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

RUTH AUDREY BROWN

Mrs. Ruth Audrey Brown, 33, wife of Brady Brown, died Tuesday at 12:40 p.m. in her home on Snow Hill, near Newell, following an eight month illness.

Mrs. Brown was born in Hancock County, where she spent her lifetime.  She was employed in the dipping shed of Edwin M. Knowles China Co. at Newell.  She was a member of Local Union 94, National Brotherhood of Operative Potters and the Congo Church of the Nazarene.

She leaves three sons, Harold Brown, Curtis Brown and Wayne Brown, at home; her father, Frank Cordray and two brothers, Earl Cordray and Glen Cordray, all of Newell.

Rites will be held Friday at 2 p. m. in the Arner Home for Funerals in East Liverpool by Rev. B. F. Grant of the Congo Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery at Wellsbille.

ALICE BURNETT

Oldest Lisbon Resident Dies

Mrs. Alice Burnett Is Claimed At 99

LISBON--Mrs. Alice Ward Burnett, Lisbon's oldest citizen, died this morning, at 7:15 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edna Morrow, 901 N. Market St.  after a two-week illness.

She celebrated her 99th birthday Oct 4. and until her recent illness was always in good health.  She had expressed a desire to live to 100.

Born at Libson Oct. 4, 1853, she was a daughter of Andrew and Clarissa Maus Ward.  She spent her entrie lifetime in this area.

She received her early education in a log cabin near Lisbon High School in 1872.   Two years later she married Henry S. Burnett who died in 1935.

Mrs. Burnett's mind was very alert and she remembered many historical events, including  Gen. Morgan's raid in 1863.  She carried coffee to men defending the village from the Confederate raiders.

She also remembered the first train to arrive at Lisbon. 

She was a member of the Christian Church and honorary of the Lisbon Historical Society.

She leaves two other daughters, Mrs. Hazel Steel of Lisbon, and Mrs. Lucille Potts of Baltimore; a son, Harry Burnett  of Detroit, and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 at the Ells-Leggett Funeral Home by the Rev. C. W. Houston of the Christian Church, and Rev. Theodore Cord of Stow, O.  Burial will be  in Lisbon Cemetery

Friends may call Friday at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m.

JESSE L. BURROUGHS

Jesse Lee Burroughs, 66, of 1610 Nevada St., Wellsville, died late Thursday afternoon in City Hospital, where he had been a patient for 13 days.

Mr. Burroughs was a native of Belmont County and came to Wellsville about a year ago.  He was employed by the Co-Operative Transit Co. in the Wheeling-Bellaire area for about 30 years before retiring and moving here.  He was a member of Division 103, Amalgamated Association of Street and Electric Railway Employees and Bus Drivers of America.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Mary Black Burroughs; a son, David L. Burroughs of Wellsville; a step-brother, Edward Murray of Bellaire, and three grandchildren.

Rites will be held Monday at 9:30 a. m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Wellsville by Rev. Fr. James R. Hennessy.  Burial will be in St. Elizabeth's Cemetery.

The body will be removed late today from the MacLean Funeral Home to the late home where friends may call.

MRS. BELLE BUTLER

Mrs. Belle Butler, 70, of Waterloo St., died Friday at 5:20 p.m. in the home of her daughter Mrs. Mary E. Early, in Mingo Junction, following a three-year illness.

Mrs. Butler was born in Lisbon and lived here until about a year ago.  She was a kilndrawer at the Taylor, Smith & Taylor Co., for several years and a member of Local 94, National Brotherhood of Operative Potters.

She leaves three sons, John C. Butler and George A. Butler of Stuebenville, and Thomas C Butler of Newell; three brothers, Alex Easton of Canton, and George Easton and Walter Easton of Lisbon; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Connor of Youngstown, and nine grandchildren.

Rites will be held Monday at 3:30 p. m. in the Marting Funeral Home by Rev. William H. Lawrence, past of the First United Presbyterian Church.  Burial will be in the Lisbon Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday afternoon and night at the funeral home.
