BARBARA HALPATE

Mrs. Barbara Halpate, 74, widow of Michael Halpate, died Wednesday at 10:15 p. m. in her home at 1317 North River Ave., Toronto, following a 14-week illness.

Mrs. Halpate was born in Czechoslovakia Nov. 19, 1875, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Zachar.  She had lived in Toronto the last 44 years.  She was a member or St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church at Toronto, the Rosary Society, the Sacred Heart League, the First Catholic Ladies Slovak Union and the Jedonta Society.

She leaves two sons, Rudy Halpate of East Liverpool and Michael Halpate at home; five daughters, Mrs. Joseph Andros of Charlerol, Pa., and Mrs. H. B. Weiser, Mrs. Joseph Smurda, Mrs. John Sweda and Mrs. John Urich, all of Toronto; a brother, Ignatus Zachar, in Czechoslovakia; 10 grandchildren and three great grand children.

Rites will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church by Rev. Fr. A. R. Beros. Burial wil be in the Toronto Union Cemetery.

 HARRY FRANK HOFMEISTER

EAST PALESTINE, July 24 (Special)-- Harry Frank Hofmeister, a former local resident, died Saturday in Portsmouth (Va.) hospital after suffering a heart attack while visiting friends.  He was 69.

A resident of Petersburg, he was born here Aug. 17, 1880, a son of Jacob and Almira Hofmeister.

Following the death seven years ago of his first wife, the former Miss Cora Warner of Petersburg, he was married in August, 1947, to Miss Essie Taylor, a teacher in the local schools for 45 years.

Besides his widow, he is survived by five children of his first marriage--two sons, Ronald Hofmeister and Orvil Hofmeister, both of Petersburg; three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Leuzinger of Pittsburg, Mrs. Ruth Gillam of Ptersburg, and Mrs. Dorothy Berg of Poland; a sister, Mrs. Ora Flowers of Detroit; a brother, Charles Hofmeister of Zellenople, and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the late home by Rev. C. H. Stevens of the Petersburg Presbyterian Church.  Burial will be in Glenview Cemetery here.

Friends may call at the family home Tuesday.
