LOVELL S. MASON

Lovell S. Mason, a resident of Midland for 28 years, died Tuesday at 1:30 a. m. at his home, 376 Ohio Ave.

He is survived  by a brother, Charles Mason of Pittsburgh, four daughters, Mrs. Elsie Nunn of Midland, Mrs. Mary Jane Nelson of Pittsburgh, and Ella Mason and Laura Mason of Newport News, Va., and a son, William Mason of Midland.

Services will be held Friday at 2  p. m.  from the Mt. Olive Baptist Church by Rev. Hubert Goodman.  Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Industry township.

Friends may call at the late home Thursday afternoon.

EARL WAYLAND MAUCK

Onetime Local Newsman Dies

E. W. Mauck Worked With O. O. McIntyre

Earl Wayland Mauck, 74, a fellow worker of the late columnist O. O. McIntyre on the Old Morning Tribune about 45 years ago, died Wednesday night in teh Gallipolis Hospital.

Mr. Mauck, familiarly known as "Squire", was associate editor of the Gallipolis Tribune, where he had worked for 19 years.  He worked previously on newspapers in Charleston, Huntington, Logan, Welsh and Williamson, W. Va.

Mr. Mauck was working on the Morning Tribune in 1904 when prevailed upon "Odd" McIntyre to come her to take a job with Jere Simms, publisher of the paper.  He and McIntyre worked together until the latter left here on Feb. 28, 1905.

Born in Cheshire, Gallia County, he was educated at Ohio University at Athens and Ohio State University in Columbus.  He studied law and was admitted to the bar, but never engaged in full-time practice.  He was the owner of the old Gallipolis Journal at one time and had been a gold assayer for the federal government and a gold prospector in Arizona.

Mr. Mauck was a Republican and in 1942-44 represented the 10th Ohio Congressional District on the Republican State Central Commitee.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Edna McMullen Mauck, three nieces and an aunt.

JAMES MCALLISTER

DUNGANNON, July 18 (Special)-- Services for James McAllister, 38, who died of suffocation early Monday in a fire at his home, will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday from the Maple Funeral Home in Kensington.

Rev. Sherman Brantingham of Winona will officiate.  Burial will be in Woodsdale Cemetery, Hanover township.

Mr. McAllister was born Aug. 8, 1912, near Dungannon, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred McAllister, and resided here all his life.  He lived alone.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Charles McAllister and Joseph McAllister and three sisters, Betty McAllister and Jean McAllister, and Mrs. Howard Lindesmith of Dunganon.

Crucible Man Killed in Fall

John McCafferty, 32, Loses Life in Mishap

A 32-year-old employee of the Crucible Steel Co. at Midland suffered fatal injuries Wednesday afternoon in a 50-foot fall at the Defense Plant.  It was the second fatal accident at Crucible this year.

The victim was John Ross McCafferty, a sheeter employed in the Construction Department.  He boarded at 724 Beaver Ave., Midland, but his parents home is in Rimersburg, Pa.

The accident occured at 1:50 and he died in the Crucible ambulance en route to the Emergency Hospital.

Edward Troutman, assistant safety director, said Mr. McCafferty was one of five ment replacing corrugated sheeting on a roof.

He cut a center sheet loose and as he attempted to remove it, lost his balance and fell through the opening.

Apparently, he struck his head on a steel girder as he fell

Margaret Saunders of Darlington, assistant county coroner, ruled it accidental at an inquest last night.  He suffered a fractured skull, fractured vertebrae and possible internal injuries.

The body was removed to the Moore Funeral Home in Rimersburg where services will be held Saturday. Burial will be in Rimerburg.

Mr. McCafferty had been employed at Crucible since May 6, 1949.  He formerly worked with the Pittsburgh Coal Washing Co., as a sheeter.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. McCafferty, and his widow and one child of Craigsville, W. Va.

ETHEL H. MCCAIN

February 8, 1942
Miss Ethel H. McCain, a clerk in the D. M. Oglivie and Co. Store for many years, died Sunday at 1:35 p.m. in her home at 1011 Ohio Ave., following a several months illness.  She was 61.

Miss McCain was born in Madison, Ind., a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Truman McCain, and resided in East Liverpool (Ohio) since she was a child.  She was a member of The Second Presbyterian Church., the
Sunday School and Missionary Society and Ceramic Rebekah Lodge 258.

She leaves one brother, James W. McCain of East Liverpool, and three nephews and a niece.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2  p.m. in the Dawson Funeral Home by Rev. Wilson M. Stitt, pastor of The Second Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary M. Hood McCord, 75, of 927 Minerva St., died this morning at 9 at City Hospital after a year's illness.

She was born in New Cumberland Sept. 5, 1891, a daughter of the late James Hood and Arvana Salner Hood.  She resided in East Liverpool virtually all her life.  She was a member of the First Church of Christ.

She leaves a sister, Mrs. Byrdie Dallas, with whom she resided, and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by the Dawson Funeral Home.

MISS MARY MCGARRY

SALINEVILLE, July 18 (Special)-- Miss Mary Jane McGarry of Hammondsville R. D. died Monday about 7 a. m. at her home five miles southeast of here after a long illness.

She was born in this vicinity Dec. 4, 1868, a daughter of William and Mary McGarry.  She was a member of the Salineville United Presbyterian Church.

Her only survivor is a nephew, William McGarry of Detroit.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m. from the Kerr Funeral Home, by Rev. L. P. Reed, pastor of the Church of Christ.  Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

MABEL MCGINTY

Mrs. Mabel Baines McGinty, 66, a sister of Mrs. Nora Swaney of Hookstown, died Friday at 2:30 a.m. in her home at West View, Pa., as the result of injuries suffered in a fall in the bathtub.

Mrs. McGinty, was a member of the Presbyterian Church at West View.  She leaves another sister, Hazel Hartzell of Ontario, Calif. formerly of Chester, and a brother Earl Hartzell of Milwaukee.

The body was taken to the Stewart Funeral Home in Hookstown where friends may call tonight.  It will be taken Sunday morning to her home for rites Monday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the West View Cemetery.

FRANK M. MCKENNA

Frank M. McKenna, 72, retired potter, died Saturday at 11:30 p. m. in his home in Calcutta following a several week's illness.

Mr. McKenna resided in East Liverpool for 62 years.  He was custodian of the Potters Hall.  He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and an honorary member of the  National Brotherhood of Operative Potters.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Lida Hill McKenna; a sister, Elizabeth McKenna of Cleveland, and a brother, Raymond McKenna of Alliance.

Rites will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the church.  Burial will be in Columbiana Memorial Park.

CLYDE A. MCKEONE

Clyde A. McKeone, 221 West Forth St. died Friday at 8:15 p.m. in the Rocky Glenn Sanatorium at McConnelsville, following a several months' illness.  He was 52.

Mr. McKeone was born in East Liverpool, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McKeone.  He was a World War II veteran and was employed last as a shipping clerk for the Potters Supply Co.  He was a member of the National Brotherhood of Operative Potters.

He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Charles Coleman and Mrs. John V. Hagan, both of East Liverpool.

Rites will be held Monday at 3:30 p. m. in the Dawson Funeral Home by Rev. Harry W. Glaspy, pastor of the Pleasant Heights United Brethern Church.  Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.

FRED C. MEEHAN

LISBON, July 29 (Special)-- Fred C. Meehan of R. D. 5 died at 9:10 a. m. today in Henthorne Chronic Hospital following a stroke suffered Tuesday.  He was 75.

Born in Center township June 1, 1875, a son of John and Margaret Shive Meehan, he was a lifelong resident of this area.

He was a member of St. Jacob's Reformed Church.

Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Hattie Swagger, Mrs. Flora Virden and Mrs. Ollie Carnes, all of Lisbon, and Mrs. Lizzie Gaver of Youngstown, and three brothers, Cyde Meehan of Lisbon, Merle Meehan of Superior, Neb., and Sollie Meehan of Detroit.

Services will be held Tuesday at 2  p.m. from the Ells-Leggett Funeral Home by Rev. E. D. Fager of St. Jacob's. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery.

ELIZABETH MARIE SPROWL MELLOTT

Elizabeth Sprowl Mellott, 80, of Water Street, Barnesville, died April 5, 1984 in Barnesville Hospital. 

She was born July 27, 1903 in Centerville, a daughter of the late Henry and Cora Riggle Sprowl. She was a Protestant by faith and was preceded in death by her husband, David Mellott Sr., in 1979; one sister, Lettie Duke; three brothers, William, George and Samuel Sprowl; a daughter and a son.

 Surviving are five sons, Charles with whom she resided, James of East Liverpool, Alfred of Bellaire, David of Dayton and George of Lisbon; three daughters, Hilda Huntsman of Barnesville, Agnes Pinkerton of Lisbon and Ruth Evans of Claysville; three sisters, Irene Kent of Dennison, Margaret Gilham of Flushing, and Orpha Ellifritz of East Finley, PA., three brothers James Sprowl of Barnesville, John of Cadiz and Alfred of New Martinsville; 39 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. 

Services were held Sunday from the Kelly-Kemp Funeral Home, Bethesda, with Rev. John Jackson officiating. Burial was made at noon Monday in the Calcutta United Presbyterian Cemetery, East Liverpool, OH.

STEVEN H. MERICAL

Steven H. Merical, 44, of Benden Circle, Murrysville, Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, following a lengthy illness. 

He was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on December 22, 1960, a son of John C. Merical of Merritt Island, Florida and Barbara (Bock) Merical of East Liverpool, Ohio. 

Mr. Merical worked for Hewlett Packard Company for 22 years, most recently as a manager, last working in February 2004. He graduated from Beaver Local High School in 1979, attended Columbiana County Juvenile Vocational School, graduated form the Ohio Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering, received his MBA degree from Devry University and attended many other classes related to his work. He belonged to Murrysville Golf Club, was an avid bowler and rode his motorcycle in charitable poker runs. To promote the National Transplant Assistance Fund and The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Steven rode his motorcycle in the " 1000 miles for New Breath" from Pittsburgh, PA to Cocoa, Florida. He belonged to the Monroeville Assembly of God Church.

 Besides his parents, he is survived by his step-mother, Jacquelyn McCune Merical of Merritt Island, Florida; a brother, Vaughn "Cy" Merical of Kathleen, Georgia; a step-brother, Timothy Wells of Weirton, West Virginia; a step-sister, Deborah Guidry of Ocala, Florida; his very dear and close friend, Beverly Hamer of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and his companion and friend, Levi the lab. Mr. Merical was preceded in death by a sister, Crystal Merical. 

Services will be held at the Calcutta Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Home on Thursday, September 29, 2005 at 11:30 AM . Burial will follow in United Presbyterian Cemetery of Calcutta. 

The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home in Calcutta on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM Memorial Contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

HAROLD ALLEN MILLER

BARBERTON -- Harold Allen Miller, 79, died Dec. 17, at Barberton Citizens Hospital.

He was born in Washington Court House, and resided for the last six years in Barberton, Prior to that he resided for 45 years in Columbiana.  He was employed with the Columbiana Foundry Co., for 40 years, retiring 13 years ago as a foreman in the pattern department.  He was a member of the Columbiana First Presbyterian Church, where he was very active.  He was a World War II Army Veteran, and a member of the York Drexler V. F. W. Post 5532.  

He is survived by his wife, Helen M.; son, Thomas of Barberton; daughter Judy Miller of Barberton; two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the Columbiana First Presbyterian Church in Columbiana, Rev. Dan Schomer officiating.  Interment at Columbiana Cemetery.  Friends may call TODAY, 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home; and Wednesday, one hour prior to service time, at the church

Judy Eileen Miller, 57, passed away April 14, 2005, at Hospice Care Center, Copley Twp., Ohio.

She was born in Salem, Ohio on Christmas Day and resided in the Barberton-Akron area for the last 38 years. She was employed as a LPN at Akron Children's Medical Center, Akron City Hospital and Barberton Citizens Hospital, with her last employment as a insurance processor at Barberton Physical Therapy. She was a member of the Barberton Evangelical Friends Church where she actively served in various capacities throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harold A. Miller. She is survived by her mother, Helen Mae Miller of Barberton; brother, Thomas (Janet) Miller of Manchester; niece, Melanie Miller; and nephew, Christopher Miller.

Mrs. Laura Milligan Claimed in Chester

Mrs. Laura Olive Milligan, 73, widow of Edward Miligan, died today at 10:15 a.m. in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wilfred Devon, on Third St., Chester, following a long illness.

She was born in New Cumberland, a daughter of George and Mary Jane Manypenny, and was a member of the Chester Christian Church.

She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Clarence Knowles of Sharon, Mrs. Max Tuttle of Chester, and Mrs. Earl Bell fo New Cumberland; three sons, Paul Milligan of Waynesboro, Pa., James Milligan of Wellsville, and Robert Milligan of Chester, and 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

FRED H. MILLWARD

Fred H. Millward, 315 First St., Wellsville, retired potter, died this morning in City Hospital.

Mr. Millward was born in England, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Millward.  He was brought to East Liverpool by his parents when a child.  A handler, he was employed in potteries in East Liverpool and Wellsville, until a year and a half ago, when he retired while working for the Wellsville China Co.

Mr. Millward was a member of the Wellsville Eages Lodge, the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the National Brotherhood of Operative Potters.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Minnie Wells Millward; a son, Stephen Millward of East Liverpool; a daughter, Mrs. Earl R. Brokaw of Arnold, Pa.,; a step-son William Curnan of Los Angeles; a step-daughter, Mrs. Maxine Hardy of Wellsville; a brother, Albert Millward of East Liverpool; two sisters, Mrs. Ben Smith and East Liverpool, and Mrs. Joseph Rigby of East Palestine, and several grandchildren.

The body was taken to the MacLean Funeral Home.  Services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a. m. in the church by Rev. Fr. James R. Hennessy.  Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery.

HENRY MOEHL

Henry Moel, 60, a former deputy sheriff in Lorain County, died Sunday in his home in Lorain.

Mr. Moehl leaves his widow, a sister of Mrs. C. P. Deemer of East Liverpool; a son, Carl Moehl of Boulder, Colo., and a daughter, Mrs. Max Roe of Elyria.

Services were held Sunday in Elyria with burial in Kipton.

JENNY L. MOORE

EAST PALESTINE--Mrs. Jenny L. Moore, 85, died Saturday at 9 p.m. at the home of her son, Raymond F. Moore, 437 E. Clark St., after several months' illness.  

A daughter of Aaron and Lavada Linn, she was born Jan. 29, 1867, near Davenport, Ia.  She was married Dec. 7, 1887, to Thomas S. Moore, who died in 1942.  She lived in East Palestine about 35 years, coming from Spruceville, St. Clair Township.  She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James Miller of Enon Valley; three sons, Raymond F. Moore and Harry L. Moore, both of East Palestine, and Thomas Linn More of East Liverpool; a brother, Glenn Linn of Spokane, Wash; 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.  Three other children, Mrs, Inez Thompson, Ray E. Moore and Miss Mary Moore, preceded their parents in death.

Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Van Dyke Funeral Home by the Rev. Byron Fruit of the Presbyterian Church, Burial will be in the United Presbyterian Cemetery at Calcutta.
