Mansfield: Minnie Lee Zent, age 79, of 6544 County Road 37,
died Tuesday afternoon April 17, 2001 in Lexington Court Care
Center. She was born January 21, 1922 in Spartanburg, SC, to C.C.
and Mary Owens Teseniar, and was graduated from Tiffin High School.
A Galion resident most of her life, Mrs. Zent was a homemaker who
dedicated her life to loving and supporting her family. She is
survived by her daughter and son-in-law Carol & Stephen
Melchior, with whom she made her home; two sons and daughters-in-law
Dwane & Kathy Zent of Apopka, FL, and Michael & Gloria Zent
of Longview, FL; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by her husband Carl Edward Zent in 1960; a
sister Ollie Horton and a brother James Teseniar. Friends may call
Thursday April 19, 2001 from 6-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder
Funeral Home. A funeral service for the family will be held in
the funeral home Friday. The Rev. David Root will officiate.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Wire
funeral home for Mrs. Minetta E. Krauter, 83, native of
Crawford county who died Monday in Mansfield at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. India Race. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Mrs.
Krauter was born north of Bucyrus March 17, 1862. Her marriage to
David Krauter took place March 11, 1885. Mr. Krauter died in 1913.
Survivors include a son David, of Lexington and five daughters, Mrs.
Race, Mrs. Herman Neuman of Bucyrus, Mrs. A. J. Norris of LaPorte,
Ind, Mrs. Roy Fulton of Shreve and Mrs. Peter Hellos of Kansas City,
Mo., and a sister, Mrs. Grace Clawson of Lima.

The body of Ernest A. Culvert, 71, was brought to Galion
for burial in Fairview cemetery. He died at the Eagles home in
Mansfield Friday of a heart attack, and services were held in
Mansfield Tuesday.

Crestline-
The body of Mrs. Laura C. Morton of Cleveland was brought
to Crestline Tuesday to the Orie Garverick Funeral home where
funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Alva Miller
of First Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be made in the
Mansfield cemetery.
Mrs. Morton died in the home of her sister Mrs. Pluma Smith in
Cleveland at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. She was born in Fayston, Vt., Sept
16, 1864 to Eli and Amelia Nenezeza Bruce. Her husband John F.
Morton preceded her in death. Survivors are four sisters, Mrs. F. A.
Childs of New London, formerly of Crestline, Mrs. Katherine Murray
of Millersburg, Mrs. Charles Chambers of Grand Rapids, Mich., and
Mrs. Smith at whose home she died. A niece, Mrs. A. T. Wright of
Crestline also survives.
Galion-
Mrs. Mary Miller, 88, died in her home at 365 North
Columbus street about 6:40 a.m. today. A native of Germany, where
she was born May 11, 1857, she came to this county when a child and
lived in Delphos, O. On Dec 10, 1875, she was married to Ferdinand
J. Miller, who died 50 years ago. She came to Galion 41 years ago.
surviving are the following children; Mrs. Walter Williams of
Mansfield, Mrs. Roger Godfrey and Fred C. Miller of Galion, two
sisters, Misses Christine and Lena Goehring of Delphos. Three sons
preceded her in death. Funeral services are awaiting word from Mrs.
Godfrey who is visiting in California

Eleanor had lived in the area her entire life and
was a graduate of

. She was employed by

as a nurses' aide for 17 years from 1960-1977. Mrs. Hout was a member

Center
. She was a wonderful mother and was proud of the seven winters she
got to spend with her husband in
Florida
.
She is survived by her two sons and two
daughters, Richard and Jo Hout of West Jefferson, Joann and Dee
Plaster of Mansfield, Edward and Janet Hout of Crestline, Elaine and
Marty Komives of London; nine grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great
grandchildren; her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Harold
Baldinger of Galion; and her sister-in-law, Eileen Walter of
Crestline.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Donald
Hout, and her brother, Carl Walter.

Along with his wife of 47 years, Vernon is
survived by four children, Dan Barker, Donna (Doug) Rader, Dale
(Kathy) Barker all of Bucyrus, David (Angela) Barker of New
Washington; eleven grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one brother,
Donald (Sue) Barker of Kentucky; three sisters, Mary (Arlie Ray)
Moore, Lois (Paul) Fannin, both of Kentucky, and Pauline Brown of
Crestline.
In addition to his parents,
Vernon
is preceded in death by a brother, William Barker, and a sister Martha
Reynolds.

Jim retired in 1982 from The Timken

, Bucyrus. He had lived here since 1997, moving from Superior, Mont.
Mr. Rawlins was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church,
Superior. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a life member of the
American Legion, Crestline.
He is also survived by a son and four daughters,
Diane and Larry Young of Bucyrus, James and Paula Rawlins or Salem,
Ore., Patricia and Steven Lohr of Bucyrus, Mary and Dennis Pelfrey of
Upper Sandusky, and Pamela and Earl Butler of Oceola; 12
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Merval Ramsey of
Bucyrus and Jean Stewart of Oceola.
He was preceded in death by two grandsons; his
brother, Dick Rawlins; and his sister, Hilda Stewart.

in Bucyrus to Stephen Cramer and Brenda (Sweeney) Melvin who survive
in Bucyrus. In addition he is survived by his stepfather Chuck Melvin;
Aunts Cherie (Alan) Young; Loretta (Gilbert) Johnson; and Julia (Fredie)
Dicks all of Bucyrus; cousins Albert Johnson, Tami Kreiger, Loretta
(Todd) Pennington, Dana (Brent) Rainis, Alana (Tom) Lemmen, Hope
(Mike) Wittig, and Noah Young.
He was preceded in death by his maternal
grandparents, Frank and Mildred Sweeney, as well as paternal
grandparents Willis and Miriam Cramer.
Stephen lived his entire life in the community
graduating from
Colonel
Crawford
High School
in 1987. He served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force, successfully
completed training as a dental assistant specialist, served in support
of Operation Desert Shield/Storm, and received the AF Outstanding Unit
Award, Nat. Defense Service Medal, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon,
and the Air Force Training Ribbon. Stephen was a member of the
Crestline VFW Post # 2920 and a Life Member of Amvets Post #27.

, he was the son of the late Frank J. Egner and Cornelia (Stover)
Egner. He was preceded in death on

by his wife, Betty (Krebs) Scott Egner whom he married on
Apr. 29, 1973
. He was previously married to Winoid Musgrave on
Nov. 3, 1934
and she preceded him in 1972.
He attended
Galion
High School
and was a member of The Galion Seventh Day Adventist Church where he
served as Head Elder and a member of the finance committee. He was a
breeder and trainer of quarter horses and a lifetime member of the
Ohio Quarter Horse Association and member of American Quarter Horse
Association for many years. He was a charter member of the National
Reining Horse Association.
He was co-owner of Galion Transfer and Storage
Company in 1932 with his father F.J. Egner. He was also president of
F.J. Egner & Son, Inc., transporters of petroleum and other liquid
products from 1934 until the sale of the company in 1960; owner of C.R
.& M., Inc. Mack Truck Sales & Service of Galion and
associated with R.& R. Mack Truck Sales & Service in
Austintown. He served as a director of The National Tank Truck
Carriers, Inc. and was an officer in Owners Products, Inc. from 1949
to 1960.
He is survived by two sisters, Janice Ramsey of
Galion and Alberta Smith of Apex, N.C.; a brother and sister-in-law,
Frank H. and Penny Egner of Findlay; many nieces and nephews; a
step-son and spouse, Frank (Butch) and Donna Scott; and two step-granddaughters,
Rebecca Scott and Tracy House all of Canandaigua, N.Y.
In August of 1961 he was preceded in death by a
son, Larry Egner. He is also preceded in death by two sisters and one
brother.

GALION
— Charles S. Garvarick, 92, Civil war veteran. who
served three years as a private in Company K, Ohio Infantry,
died Friday night after on illness of one week, in his
home

He was born in
Pennsylvania
, Jan. 31, 1842, and fallowing
the Civil war was a farmer, east of here.
He enlisted
on Aug. 20,
1862, and
served until
July 18, 1865 when he was
honorably discharged. Mr.
Garvarick was one of the privates who took part in
Sherman
's march.
He
is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna Garvarick; six children, Mrs.
Viola Baldunger, Mrs. Clarence Chubb and Mrs. H. L. Chubb, all of
Gallon; Mrs. William A. Miller und Edwin Garvarick, both of West
Point, and Siebert Garverick, of New Winchester. He also is survived
by three brothers, four sisters, -13 grandchildren, 23 great-
grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services
will be held Monday at 2 p. m. in the Volk funeral home in charge of
Rev, J. H. Patterson, of North Robinson. Burial will be made In
Iberia cemetery. Friends are asked to omit flowers.

New Washington- Mrs. Caroline Karg, 69, died at her home three
miles south of here, Friday afternoon following a year's illness.
Survivors include six children, two by a former marriage. They are
Wallace Laux of New Washington, and Fred Laux of Hiwatha, Mich., and
Mrs. Emery Shrefe of Tiro. Ralph and Clarence Karg, both of New
Washington. and Mrs. Fred Sheely of Chatfield. Two sisters and three
brothers also survive. They are Mrs. Anna Zaebst of North Olestead,
O., Mrs. Elizabeth Waters of Guthrie, Vt., Adam Reidel of Chatfield,
Charles and Jacob Riedel, both of New Washington. Funeral services
will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the home with Rev. John (?),
pastor of the Lutheran church officiating. Burial will be made in the
Lutheran cemetery.

Frances Adora Zaebst Brown
NEW WASHINGTON (Special) -- Mrs. Frances Brown died
here at 9 p.m., Wednesday at the home of her daughter. She was aged 80
years.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband
Curtis. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Zaebst of
Cranberry-co. and was born Sept. 29, 1861. She was the mother of 13
children, 11 living.
Surviving besides the children are one sister and
five brothers.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the High
Funeral Home here with the Rev. Paul Gerlach officiating. Burial in
the Lutheran Cemetery here.

Mrs. Frances Brown, 79, Succumbs At New Washington.
NEW WASHINGTON -- Mrs. Frances Brown, 79,
mother of 11 children, died here last night at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. J. P. High. She was born in Crawford county, Sept. 29,
1861.
Surviving are two sons, Lawrence of New Washington
and Albert of Bucyrus; nine daughters, Mrs. Charles Cleland of Shelby,
Mrs. Glen Braden, Mrs. Russell Cox and Mrs. Marvin Matthes, all of
Mansfield, Harriett Brown, Mrs. Ivan Ledere and Mrs. Edson Lent, all
of Lakewood; Mrs. Christian Weigler of Bucyrus and Mrs. Proctor High
of New Washington; one sister, Mrs. Ikes Gable of New Washington; five
brothers, Adam Zaebst of California, Otis Zaebst of Andora, Rufus
Zaebst of Gabon, Frank Zaebst of Sulphur Springs, and Fred Zaebst of
Bucyrus, 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Rev. Paul Gerlach of the Lutheran church here will
conduct funeral services Saturday at 2 p.m. in the High funeral home.

GALION -- Services will be held at 11 a.m.
Friday from the Snyder Funeral Home, Galion, for Rufus
Zaebst, 91, formerly of Galion, who died Monday in Welch,
W. Va., after an illness of one year.
Mr. Zaebst had been living with a son, The
Rev. Oran C. Zaebst, in Welch for the past five years.
He was a native of New Washington.
He was an insurance salesman for Western
and Southern before his retirement. He was a member of Peace
Lutheran Church, Galion.
Besides his son in West Virginia, he is
survived by three other sons, Allen of Galion, Elwood of
Lorain and Ivan in California; one daughter, Mrs. Howard Holm
in New Jersey; one brother, Frank of Sulphur Springs, 14
grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Luther Muehlbrad will conduct the
services. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Galion. Friends

Mrs. Lulu Zaebst, 72, Dies In Residence At Galion
GALION -- Mrs. Lulu M. Zaebst, 72,
died in her home at 226 Pershing Ave. after being bedfast two
months. A native of Hancock county, she came here in 1899
following her marriage to Rufus C. Zaebst, who survives. She
was a member of Peace Lutheran church.
Besides her husband, she leaves five sons,
Rev. Oran of Greenville, S. C., Elwood of Lorrain, Ivan of
Phoenix, Ariz., Alfred of Ocala, Fla., and Allen of Galion; a
daughter, Mrs. Howard Holm of Demarest, N. J.; three brothers,
Leo and Harry Foltz of Shelby, and Vern Foltz of Akron; six
sisters, Mrs. George Gantzler of Crestline, Mrs. George Morrow
of Amherst, Mrs. James Wentz of Shelby, Mrs. Leslie McHenry of
Akron and Mrs. Allen Boutwell of Shelby, and 14 grandchildren.

conducted this afternoon in the Munz funeral home for Mrs. Clara
Ella Kessler Zaebst, 68, who died at her home 110 Swigert
street Thursday following a five year illness. Interment was
made in Union cemetery. Mrs. Zaebst was born in Crawford
county and lived here her entire lifetime. Survivors are the
husband, Fred Zaebst; two sons, Irvin of Tiro and Maurice of
New Washington and five daughters, Mrs. Ocie May of Mansfield;

BUCYRUS -- Fred I. Zaebst, 71,
retired farmer residing at 188 1/2 North Poplar St., died at
5:45 p.m. Wednesday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Gladys
Moon, 11 miles east of here in Sandusky township after a
week's illness. His wife, Clara, died in March, 1947.
Mr. Zaebst leaves two sons, Irvin of Tiro
and Maurice of New Washington; five daughters, Mrs. Moon at
whose home he died, Mrs. Ocie May and Mrs. Hazel Palmer, both
of Mansfield, Mrs. Florence Carle of Carleton, Mich., and Mrs.
Doris Dutschke of Crestline; four brothers, Adam of Culver
City, Calif., Otis of Ashtabula, Frank of Sulphur Springs and
Rufus of Galion, and a sister, Mrs. Ickes Gabel of New
Washington.
Rites will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the
Munz funeral home. Rev. Palmer Manson, Tiro Evangelical United
Brethren church pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in

Lincoln Heights Woman Ends Own Life With Razor Blade.
A suicide verdict was returned by Coroner
High Winbigier in the death late Saturday of Mrs. Fairy
Tupps, 44, Lincoln Heights, whose body was found in her
room with the left wrist slashed with a razor blade.
The body was discovered about 6 p.m. by her
husband, W. J. Tupps, after he returned from work. Mrs. Tupps,
who had been in ill health for several weeks, left a note
under a pillow, explaining that she feared losing her mind,
Deputy Sheriff Glenn Freeman said. The note was addressed to
her husband.
A native of Crawford county, Mrs. Tupps
came to Mansfield 22 years ago. She was a member of the
English Lutheran church of Bucyrus.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a
son, W. B. Tupps, Mansfield; a daughter, Carol Jean, at home;
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George F. Zaebst of Crawford county;
four sisters, Mrs. Charles Gadfield of Mansfield, Mrs. Chester
Miller of Bellville, Mrs. Leo Walton of Bucyrus and Alice
Zaebst of Crawford county, and two brothers, Robert Zaebst of
Mansfield and Richard Zaebst of Crawford county.
The body was taken to the Finefrock funeral
home where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with
Rev. H. S. Garnes, pastor of St. Luke's Lutheran church,
officiating . Burial will be in Union cemetery, Crawford

Ave., died this morning in Mansfield General Hospital after an
extended illness. He was born Aug. 11, 1897 in Crawford
County and had lived here most of his life. Mr. Tupps was a
retired partner of D.&D. Painters and a member of Moose
Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Hazel M. Tupps; one
step-daughter, Mrs. Lou H. Bachelder of State Route 546;; two
step-sons, Mehl and Harold Fockler both of Elyria; four
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one brother,
Donald of Galion. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the

widow of J. W. White, died last night at 8:40. A daughter,
Mrs. James Bushong of Ft. Wayne, Ind., survives. She had lived
here 54 years. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p. m.
Monday at the Foster funeral home here, and burial will be in
the Mansfield cemetery.
Bucyrus, Jan 27- Mrs. Louisa Caldwell, 58, widow of
Frank Caldwell, died yesterday afternoon at her home in
Bucyrus after a 10-week illness of heart trouble. She was a
native of Bucyrus township. Surviving are a daughter Hazel, at
home, and two sisters, Mrs. Ellen McKinstry and Mrs. Harriett
Caldwell, both of Bucyrus. The funeral will be conducted
Monday at 2 p. m. at the Wise funeral home. Burial will be
made in Oakwood cemetery.
