Adams, Major George, age 67, d. 28 Nov 1832, in Adams Township, Darke Co. He served as a spy in the Indian War and was in the advanced corps of the Americans at St. Clair's defeat. In that engagement he received 5 wounds and had 43 ball holes shot through his clothes. In the late war, he commanded a regiment of volunteers.

MRS. RACHEL CYPHERS DIES AT AGE OF 75
Death Due to Heart Failure--Had Been Ill With Influenza
--Lifelong Resident of This Community
Mrs. Rachel York Pittsenbarger-Cyphers passed away at her home on West Main st., Tuesday morning at 5:30, of heart failure. She had been ill of influenza, but was improving, when the heart attack came on.
She was born near Versailles, May 27, 1856, and lacked less than three months of reaching her 76th birthday. A kindly, helpful friend and neighbor, with a happy, optimistic disposition, Mrs. Cyphers' friends were indeed legion. And her passing brings sorrow to all who knew her.
She was married twice. Her first husband, William Pittsenbarger, died a number of years ago. Later she was married to George Cyphers, who died last April. Eight children are left to mourn the passing of a loving and beloved mother: Mrs. Lula Jones and Mrs. Della Barnes, of Muncie, Ind.; Mrs. Mollie Copeland,
Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Cora England, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Ella Marshall of Perrysburg, O.; Harlan Pittsenbarger of Union City, Ind.; Harry and Carey Pittsenbarger, of Versailles. One son, Edward, died last July.
Funeral services will be held this, Thursday after- noon, at 2 o'clock, from the Christian Church, Rev. H. A. Smith officiating. Interment will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery.

DAVIDSON, Allen
February 12, 1891
Allen Davidson died at his home, Versailles, O., February 6, 1891; aged 66 years and 3 months. He was born in the year 1825, and was united in marriage with Susannah Pitsenbarger, March 11, 1852. As fruits of this union, were born 11 children, five of whom have preceded their father to the "land of rest." He leaves to mourn his loss a loving companion, four daughters, two sons and three sisters, with a large circle of friends and relatives. He was raised as a Presbyterian, but never publicly confessed his Savior by uniting with any church. Mr. Davidson was a loving husband and a kind father. His dear ones will miss the little acts of kindness that his helping hand was always ready to give. He was kind to everyone with whom he was associated, and was an honest man in all his dealings. He was not a professed follower of Christ, but before his death, he surrendered himself to God. ... [NOTE: clipping torn, rest missing]

DAVIDSON, Henry
The funeral services of Henry Davidson, who died last Saturday [February 20, 1897] morning at 6:30 o'clock, took place at the residence of his brother-in-law, Jas. W. Reser, last Monday afternoon, conducted by S. W. Scott, pastor of the M. E. church. Deceased, who was the son of the late Allen Davidson, was born near this place and lived here up to a few years ago, when he located in Muncie, Indiana, where he had employment in one of the shops at that place. In April, 1895, he was married to Miss Cora Belle Fitzgerald and to them was born one child. A few months ago poor health compelled him to resign his position and he came to this place with the hope that a short rest would prove beneficial to him, but the skilled hand of the physician was not able to stay the progress of that dreaded disease, consumption, and he succumbed to the inevitable. The deceased was 27 years, 11 months, and 13 days old. He leaves a wife, one child, four sisters and one brother.

Susan Kay (Haines) Kendall, age 52 of Eaton, Ohio, died Friday, April 22, 2005 at 3:13 P.M. at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, due to injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident. Pittsenbarger, Rachael
Rachael, daughter of Jerry and Deidamia York, was born May 27, 1856, and departed this life March 1, 1932, aged 75 years,10 months and 4 days.
She was united in marriage to William Henry Pittsenbarger by Rev. Thomas Richardson, October 3, 1872. They spent 42 happy years together, Mr. Pittsenbarger passing away June 20, 1914. To this union, ten children were born: Mrs. Lula Jones of Muncie, Ind.; Edward, who preceded his mother in death July 23, 1930; Mrs. Della Barnes of Muncie, Ind.; Mrs. Mary Jane Coupland of Detroit, Mich.; Carey and Harry, of Versailles; Mrs. Ella Marshall of Perrysburg; Mrs. Cora England of Detroit, Mich.; Harlan of Union City, Ind.; and an infant son who died in 1895. Besides her children she leaves 21 grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren who mourn for her; and one brother Wm. York, of Muncie, Ind., who is past 81 years of age.
On March 5, 1886, Mr. and Mrs. Pittsenbarger united with the Versailles Christian Church under the pastorate of Rev. C. W. Hoeffer, and she was baptized May 23, of the same year. She lived a life faithful to her covenant vows and found great peace and satisfaction in her church life, and died in the blessed assurance of the life eternal.
January 13, 1924, she was united in marriage to George Cyphers. After living happily together for seven short years, he passed away on April 22, 1931. She was very devoted to her family, as her family was to her. Many times she said: "I have the best children in the world. No one could be better to a mother than they are to me." This is one of the highest tributes which could be paid to anyone. Not only her children, but other relatives, neighbors and friends without number feel a distinct loss today as they bid farewell to the body from which the soul --beautiful, kind, sympathetic and helpful--has gone. 53 Relatives Survive Darke County Woman--Complication of diseases ends life of Mrs. Sarah Penny, 88, at the home of daughter near Landis, Ohio-survived by eight children, 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.--
Mrs. Laura Penny, 88 years old, a lifelong resident of Darke and Miami Counties, died at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Perry Neff, one mile north of Landis. Her death was reported due to a complication of diseases from which she had suffered for the past year. She was bedfast fourteen weeks.
Mrs. Penny was the last of a family of nine children, and due to her extended residence in Darke County was widely known.
Her immediate survivors include two sons, Harry, Brookville, O., and Richard of Troy, Ohio; six daughters, Mrs. Neff, Mrs. Jacob Schneck, Clio, Michigan; Mrs. I.A. Helman, Ithaca, Michigan; Mrs. J.E. Coate, Corfu, New York; Mrs. William Robbeloth, Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. John Awker, Wyandot, Michigan; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Laura Christian Church at two p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Roy Honeyman will officiate. Burial will be made in the Old Ludlow Cemetery, south of Laura.

Obituary:

John Connaughton Sr., 92, formerly of Versailles, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday at Springview Manor Nursing Home where he had been a patient for one and a half years. He was born June 9. 1819. in Wabash Township, the son of Patrick and Mary McGluiche Connaughton On Aug. 2. 1923. he married Bertha F Alexander, who died Jan. 26, 1977. Mr. Connaughton was a former school teacher. In 1923. he was named assistant cashier of the Peoples Bank Co. In Versailles He was appointed director of the bank in 1926, elected cashier in 1930 and was named executive vice president and cashier in 1961. He served as president of the bank and retired in March 1971 On April 1. 1974. the First National Bank and the Peoples Bank consolidated and became the Peoples National Bank. He was elected co-chairman of the bank and held that office for two years He retired In 1978 after » years with the bank and continued to serve as director emeritus.

He was was a member of the Greenville EIks Lodge. St. Denis Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Versailles. Survivors include two sons. Dr. Patrick A. Connaughton of Lima and John F. Connaughton Jr. of Mount Prospect. 111.; nine grand- children; and a great-grandchild Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Denis Catholic Church, Rev. Thomas Hopp officiating. Burial will be In
St. Valbers Cemetery.

Friends may call at MiUer-Hill and Bailey Funeral Home. Versailles, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Prayer services will be at 8:45 p.m.

Brother of Famed Annie Oakley Dies

John H. Moses, 86, brother of the world-famous woman marksman, Annie Oakley, die last Thursday at his home in Greenville. He and Mrs. Moses celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Feb. 27.

Mr. Moses had six sisters, all whom preceded him in death. Annie, born at Willow Dell, north of Versailles, gained such great fame as a marksman that at one time her name was said to be familiar to more people the world over than that of any other woman. She died in 1926.

Funeral services for Mr. Moses were held Sunday at Greenville and he was buried in Brock cemetery north of Greenville, beside Annie's grave.

Obit: Dorothy M Stachler, age 92 of Greenville, Ohio passed away at 11:50 P.M. Thursday October 1, 2009 at the Versailles Health Care Center. She was born May 16, 1917 in Philothea, Mercer County, Ohio. The daughter of the late William & Elizabeth (Stucke) Ahrns.

She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Greenville and the Rosary Altar Society of the Church. Dorothy also enjoyed putting crossword puzzles together.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband - Edmund T. Stachler in October 1, 1983. They were married February 4, 1937. Also by her son - David Stachler May 1, 1955. Two grandsons - David Joseph Droesch and Duston Stachler. Three sisters and three brothers are also deceased.

Dorothy is survived by 6 sons and 2 daughters - Dolores (Stachler) & Dale Droesch of Coldwater, Donald & Patricia Stachler of Philothea, Dennis & Phyllis Stachler of Burketsville, Darrell & Patricia Stachler of Liberty Township, Diane (Stachler) Hemmelgarn of Versailles, Dale Stachler of Greenville, Duane & Debra Stachler of Mt Clemens, MI and Daniel Stachler of Arcanum, 29 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her sister - Ruth (Ahrns) Schoenlien of St. Henry as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday October 6, 2009 in the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Greenville, Ohio with Rev. Father John R. White officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Garden Mausoleum. The Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 pm on Monday at the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville. A Prayer Service will be held at 3:30 pm Monday in the funeral home.
