Aug 20, 1870 Elijah Osborn, for many years a respected resident of Richland twp, in the county died, on Monday of last week, aged 75 years. Jan 8, 1870 Sudden Death- Early on Saturday morning last a Mr. Ira Stough of Striker, O., went to his barn to do his morning work, when he suddenly fell upon the floor and died instantly. An affection of the heart is believed to have been the cause of death. The deceased left a widow with several children. He was about 55 years of age. Jan. 22, 1870 Died- Mrs. Lydia, wife of Dr. I. N. Thacker, of this place, died on Friday the 11th inst., in the 38th year of her age. Her death was not unexpected, she having been in bad health for years, suffering from lung disease. Aug. 27, 1870 Died- In Defiance, August 16, 1870, Mrs. Mary Jane, wife of G. C. Wright, of consumption, in her 25th year. Aug 20, 1870 Daniel Truby, infant son of C. C. Dixon. Jan. 1, 1870 Mrs. Hannah Tharp, widow of the late Isaac L. Tharp, died week before last aged about 79 years. Mr. and Mrs. Tharp were among the earliest settlers in Farmer township, and did their full share in their day in making that township the rich and prosperous community it now is. Ft. Wayne News Sentinel Defiance, Ohio, Nov 12 - Francis Ferdinand Mekus, Defiance county pioneer, who on August 3, celebrated his 100th birthday by saying long life may be attained by eating less, walking more and playing lots of pinochle, died today at his home, six miles north of Defiance, having lived 101 days of his 100th year. Ft. Wayne News Sentinel Defiance, Ohio, April 2 - Asa Haggart for fifty years a resident of Defiance county, died this week. Funeral was held today at the home here. At one time he conducted a bazaar store at the St. Joe, Ind. Mr. Haggart was engaged in several business ventures at the county seat and was a well known citizen of that place. Fort Wayne News Sentinel Hicksville, O., July 5 - Dr. Thomas Kinmont, 83 years old, Hicksville's first mayor died at his home here this morning at 2:30 o'clock. Dr. Kinmont was one of the best known residents of Defiance county. He had been a resident of Hicksville since 1848. When the civil war was declared, Dr. Kinmont enlisted with the Twenty-first Ohio infantry, serving as a second lieutenant. He participated in a number of battles of the civil war and was seriously wounded at the battle of Shiloh. For years Dr. Kinmont served on the pension board. Two sisters and one brother survive. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at his home. Plain Dealer Defiance, Oct 4 - Capt. Walter Wilhelm of this city, vice president amd general manager of the Eddystone Munitions Co., is dead at Philadelphia of Spanish influenza. Ft Wayne News Sentinel Margaret Crampton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Steele of Oakwood, near Defiance, Ohio, died at the St. Joseph hospital at 8 o'clock last night, after a short illness of influenza. Remains were shipped to Oakwood today at 3 o'clock. Besides her parents the deceased leaves a husband. Toledo Blade Mrs. Clara Ashton, 83; services Friday at 2 p.m. in Mansfield and Mast Mortuary. Defiance Democrat Died--- On the evening of the 4th of April, this place, Henry Duval, only son of C L and A M Noble, aged six years, eight months, and 16 days. Defiance Democrat Died--- At Independence, on Sunday, 6th inst., Fanny Maria, relict of the late Thomas B. Porter, aged about 20 years. In Tiffin township, on Sunday, 6th inst., Jacob Hall, aged 48 years. On Friday, 12th inst., in this place, Ellen, daughter of Timothy Fitzpatrick, aged 9 years., 2 months and 16 days. Defiance Democrat Died--- On the 17th inst., in Noble township, Mr. Frederick Poole, aged about 44 years, a native of Carolina county, Md., of smallpox. Defiance Democrat Died--- In Milford township, on the 30th ult., Mr. Asa Teeple, of consumption, aged 30 years, 2 months, and 21 days. In this city, on Tuesday morning last, (April 29th) of scarlet fever, Virginia, daughter of Samuel and C A Yearick, aged three years and one month.- Ohio Statesman. Defiance Democrat Died--- Near Defiance, on Monday last, Mrs. Mary, wife of Ezra Travis, aged 36 years and 2 months. In this place on Thursday morning last, Ferris, infant son of Thomas and Mary E Garrett, aged 11 days. Defiance Democrat Died-- In this place on Saturday last, Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Nathan M. and Amelia S. Landis, aged 10 months and 24 days. On the 19th ult., William Francis, son of W F and H M Eldridge, aged 4 months and 3 days. On Saturday, the 19th ult., Paulina Maria, only daughter of Thomas and Helen E Lough, aged 2 years, 6 months and 2 days. - Ohio Statesman Defiance Democrat Died--- In this place on Sunday last, Kate, daughter of Hon. Geo B and Jane Way, aged 12 years, 1 month, and 15 days. Near Antwerp, O., on Tuesday evening August 12, after an illness of 5 days, Phebe, consort of John M Phelps, aged 32 years. and on Wednesday morning following of Erysipelas, after an illness of 6 days, John M Phelps, aged 34 years. They left four small children, one of them a babe five weeks old. Defiance Democrat Died--- On the 30th of December, of typhoid fever, John Edwin, son of C and E A Tuttle, aged 4 years, 6 months and 23 days. Defiance Democrat Died--- January 10, near Ayresville, of a severe burn received on the 6th, Eliza, daughter of Mrs. Lucinda Lane, aged 3 years and 6 months. Suicide-- Daniel Wilson, an old settler of this township, and a much respected and wealthy citizen, destroyrd himself by cutting his throat on Wednesday morning of this week, with a razor, in a frightful manner. His age was between fifty and sixty. We have heard no cause for the rash act. -------- Crawford Co. Forum Burned to Death--- A little child named Ealy was burned to death in Mt. Gilead a few days since. The mother had left it alone a few moments for the purpose of attending to something out of the house, and hearing it scram, rushed in and found it all in flames. The little sufferer lingered for some hours in great agony when death kindly put an end to its torture. Defiance Democrat Died--- In Evansport, on the 1st of February, Martha, wife of Charles Replogle of that place, and daughter of L. Heacock, of Defiance, aged 24 years, 3 months and 12 days. She left a daughter 3 weeks old. Defiance Democrat Died--- On Wednesday morning, Feb 22d, Eugene G., H, son of William W and Eliza S Ashton, aged 1 year, 7 months, and 6 days. Of typhoid pneumonia, on the 12th day of February A.D. 1860, at his residence in Tully township, Van Wert county, Ohio, Geo. R. Hudspeth, aged about 27 years. The deceased was an upright honorable and correct young man. He had a large circle of friends. Four weeks since we published a notice of his marriage to Miss Brodnix-- Thus early was the bright hopes of the happy couple blasted. Instead of joy and happiness to the young and buoyant hopes of the youthful maid, death and bereavement occupy their stead. Defiance Democrat Died--- On Sunday last, of consumption, Frederick G. Cox, aged 40 years. In Delaware township, of measles, on March 3d, Hiram Ritchart, aged 25 years. Defiance Democrat Died--- On the 19th inst., in Hicksville township, Defiance county, Ohio, Mr. Isaac Wartender departed this earth- life and commenced his spiritual career on a more sublimated existence in the future life. He was sixty-sis years of age and had been a resident of this county for twenty-six years. He has left a large class of relatives and numerous friends and acquaintances to mourn his loss. Com. Defiance Democrat Died--- On the 30th of March, at the residence of the Rev. A. Detzer, in Defiance, Miss Sophia Yacky, aged 24 years, 3 months, and 16 days.
