H. R. 1874. Sheridan McDaniel, aged 52 years, whose post-office address is Gallia, Ohio, is the helpless and dependent son of Elamander McDaniel, late a private, Company I, Eighteenth Regiment Ohio Infantry, from September 24, 1861, to March 4, 1862, and May 2, 1864, to September 3, 1864, who was a pensioner under certificate No. 260234 at the rate of $50 per month and who died November 2, 1920.
The parents of this claimant were married December 31, 1865. The mother died April 1, 1875. No one appears to survive the soldier who has title to pension under existing laws. This claimant has no title for the reason that he attained the age of 16 years prior to the soldier’s death.
The medical and other evidence indicates the claimant is the legitimate son of the soldier and that he was known during his youth as an afflicted blind boy. He is totally blind and suffers interstitial kanalitis. He is in a helpless condition and requires the constant care and attention of another person.
He has property valued at $800, the income from which no more than pays the fixed annual charges against the property. No one is legally bound to his support.
It is recommended his name be placed on the pension roll at the rate of $20 a month and that it be paid to him through a legally appointed guardian.
