Mystery - Murder

Lima Morning News

McComb, August 14, -

No verdict has been rendered by Coroner Todd in the matter of the death of Mrs. James O. Ritter and her 14-months-old daughter in an old well at McComb. His verdict may be filed late today, but it is more than probable that it will not be rendered until next week.
He and Prosecuting Attorney Blackford are running down the theory, but what the nature of it is the latter will not say. He will venture no sort of an answer to the question as to the outcome of the case.
Coroner Todd has also declined to say whether a search for additional witnesses is his reason for holding open the case.
It is believed here that the authorities will investigate that part of the testimony in which Mr. Ritter stated that his wife was insanely jealous of him, and further that he had written a postal card to the woman in question, whose name he refuses to divulge.
Feeling here has greatly subsided and the probabilities are that the coroner's verdict will be death by drowning, without further finding.
