History

Ross, Athens and Fairfield counties were split to create Hocking county and on March 1, 1818, by an Act of the Ohio General Assembly, Hocking county became official.  Hocking County derived its name from the Indian word "Hoc-Hock-ing" which means "a bottle". The Hocking River flows through the county, which was once claimed by the Wyandot Indians. Logan is the county seat of Hocking County, Ohio. Residents named the town in honor of Chief Logan of the Mingo Indian tribe.

Welcome!

Genealogy Trails is a volunteer-based project dedicated to  transcribing historical and genealogical data. Our goal is to post as much data online as possible in order to make it freely available to all. We gratefully accept your contributions of data such as census information, marriage/birth/death records, old photos, obituaries, family histories, biographies, old newspaper items - anything that would help someone build their family tree! We consider every nugget of data an important piece of the genealogy puzzle. If you have information to donate, please email me with your contributions.
Thanks and Happy Trails!
