AUNT WINNIE CARTER
Her life covering a span of a few years more than a century, Aunt Winnie Carter died early Monday morning at the home of her son Ben Carter, down the Oak Hill pike. She was 108 years of age and her long life was partly spent as a slave on a southern plantation. Not far from the time when the slaves were liberated she came to Jackson county and reared a family of respected children. She was an intelligent woman and authentic records indicated that her age was well above the hundred years.
The burial will be by Charles L. Wood.
