Prominent Farmer and Old Soldier Passes Away

---------------

Mr. John Claar, aged 86, for many years a farmer in Franklin township, died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Mercer of Fourmile, following a sickness of several months. Mr. Claar was favorably and long known as a conscientious man. He was an old soldier serving valiantly in the rebellion at the call of his country. His wife preceded him in death, six years ago. To this union were born ten children, all of whom are living.

He enlisted in service for the Civil War, 1864, on Co. I, 172 O.V.I. and was discharged Sept. 3 1864.

Funeral services will be held Sunday morning at the Fourmile church at 10:30 o’clock, Standard time. Interment by undertaker Chas. L. Wood.
