Remembering Those We Loved

Jackson Standard

Thursday, March 22, 1888

HILDENBRAND - Elias Hildenbrand was born near Steubenville, Ohio, April 17, 1806; was married to Mary Wykoff March 17, 1830; removed to Jackson Co. in 1839, removed to Greenfield in 1871, where he died March 17, 1888, lacking one month of being 82 years old. He was received into fellowship of the Jackson Baptist Church on profession of faith in Christ and by baptism in the year 1843. Immediately after uniting with the church he was elected to the office of deacon, which he honorably filled till he removed to Greenfield in 1871. He was also for many years Clerk of the Central Association, to which organization his church belonged. He loved the cause of Christ, and loved the church to which he belonged, and in it he was one of the chief pillars so long as he remained in Jackson. He was indeed a religious man, and this characteristic was prominent, and when mind and body had become so enfeebled that he took little notice of what was going on around him, his face would light up at the mention of some favorite Scripture or familiar hymn. To him and his wife were born eleven children, three sons and eight daughters; the sons all died when quite young; the daughters are all living and mourn with their mother the loss of a kind husband and a loving father. But while the eyes are wet with weeping and the heart heavy with grief there comes the still small voice, saying, that the beloved husband and father has entered into the rest which awaits the people of God.
