Samuel L. Hull

Hull-Samuel L. Hull was born in Columbiana county, Ohio on the 24th day of October, 1814, and died on the 4th day of October 1882, at the age of 67 years, 11 months and 10 days.

He was married to Mary Hartley, of Columbiana county in May, 1836, and by this marriage he was the father of 11 children. Six have preceded him to the spiritland, and five remain to mourn their loss of a kind and affectionate father, and the aged mother mourns her loss of a true and Christian husband. When he started in life, the first thing that he did was to help provide for his aged parents a comfortable home in Columbiana county. He came to this county in 1815, and for a time followed school teaching and farming, eventually settling down to farming as his favorite avocation in life. He was frequently called upon to fill places of honor and trust, but having no aspirations for public life, always declined, and willingly gave place to others. He joined the Christian church when a young man, and lived a consistent member of said church for over 45 years. He spent the best part of his life in the service of his Heavenly Master. He gave liberally to the support of the church. He was a good neighbor and citizen and that his words were always true was the pride of his life, and religiously he was a Christian gentleman in the highest sense of the term. The funeral services took place at his residence on the 5th of October, and were attended by a large and attentive audience. They were conducted by Rev. J. P. Ewing of the Christian church, and assisted by Rev. W. D. Cherington of the M. E. church, after which he was buried at the Union cemetery.
