Elizabeth Alexander Lackey
Elizabeth Lackey, who passed out of this life Saturday night, April 30, 1921, was the second daughter of Caleb and Mary Jane (Callahan) Alexander, both deceased. She was born in Franklin township, Jackson County, Ohio, April 10, 1848.
She was married to James A. Lackey, March 18, 1874. This happy union was broken by the death of her husband April 23, 1908. Following this event she made her home in Jackson. For many years she was a faithful and loyal member of the Methodist Episcopal church, having been converted in early life. Was also a member of the Woman's Home Missionary Society. She enjoyed the devotion of a large circle of friends. Many times have we heard the remark, "Everybody loves Mrs. Lackey." She was true to her friends, sympathetic with those less fortunate than herself, and a friend to all.
She loved her church and Sabbath School and attended both regularly when her health permitted. However, this was rare the last few years, during which time she suffered severly but patiently from heart trouble. Frequently she had expressed herself as willing and ready to be at rest from her suffering.
The following sisters and brothers survive: Mrs. C. W. Schellenger, Pittsburg, Pa.;
Mrs. S. D. McLaughlin, Waverly, O.; M. C. Alexander, Hanford, California and Elmer A. Alexander, Hampton. Fa.
She has fought the good fight, has finished her course and gone to wear the crown of life which the Savior promises to the finally faithful. How glorious it must be to exchange her earthly suffering for the joys of Heaven.
"No aching hearts are there,
No tear-dimmed eye, nor form by sickness wasted,
No cheek grown pale through penury or care,
No spirits crushed beneath the woes they bear,
No sighs for bliss untasted.
