* Ball, Samuel, enlisted as a private soldier in Essex Co., n. J. in 1778, in Capt. Isaac Morrison's Co., Col. Matthias Ogden's Regt. First N. J. and served nine months. On Apr. 7, 1818, while a resident of Patterson, N. J., he applied fro U. S. pension. He moved to Jersey, Licking Co., Oh., about 1822, when his name appears on the U. S. pension list.

**Headley, Joseph was born in N. J. and enlisted in Sussex Co., n. J., during the spring of 1777 as a private in Col. Seeley's Regiment. He served three years in all and had Capt. Belty, Hill, Westbrook and Ribble. He came to licking Co., Oh., after a short stay at the falls of the Licking in Muskingum Co in Feb. 1815, and camped on the south fork near the present village of Jersey.

*** In the month of Feb, 1815, Joseph & Peter Headley, with a colored man, settled in Jersey township. They split puncheons and built a structure in which they lived; they tapped maple trees and made sugar. Peter Headley soon went to the land office at Chillicothe entered or purchased the southwest quarter of section 24, for himself, the southwest quarter for Lewis Martin, and the northwest quarter for Richard Osborn. In Nov., 1816, William, son of Peter Headley was born, being the first birth within the township. Peter Headley was, in 1820, one of the township's first trustees.

** Horn, George (or Horne) was born in Germany on the last day of Feb., 1765 and enlisted in Hampshire Co., Va., in June 1781, for six months as a private in Capt. Edward McCartey's Co., Col. Drake's Regiment. On Oct. 30, 1832, he was allowed pension on application from Jersey township, Licking Co., Ohio.

* McArthur, John I. died at Bellaire, Oh., while in the U. S. service as Commissary Sergeant of the 60th Reg. Ohio Vol. Infantry, aged 44y., 4m., 27d.

* Martin, Lewis, died at the home where he had lived fifty-seven years. He married the daughter of Richard Osborn; sowed first wheat in township, 1815, he was trustee and justice of the peace.

** Martin, Lewis D., s/o Lewis and Catherine, died at home as a result of army services, aged 43y., 7m., 27d. He was Colonel of the 97th Regiment Illinois Infantry, in war of 1861-65.

*Moore, Edward, Co. H., 20 regt. District of Columbia Vol. Infantry.

* Pierson, Walter, died at Millen, Ga., aged 17y 6m 23d.

*Rolison, David, age 20y 8m 5d, 17th Reg't. O. V. I.

*Rolison, Mathias, aged 22y 10m 9d, 18th Regt. U.S.A.

*Tuttle,  Rev. Jacob & his wife resided at Central College, Oh., twelve miles northeast from Columbus 1830 to 1845, where he was a professor in the Central College Presbyterian Academy.

* In the fall of 1819, Josiah Ward, who had been an elder in the Presbyterian church in Bloomfield, N. J., moved into the neighborhood with his family and immediately proposed that regular meetings be held upon Sabbath. This was the beginning of the Presbyterian church in Jersey. In July 1820, Rev. Timothy Harris of Granville and Matthew Taylor met with Mr. Ward at the home of Elias Williams and orgaized the church. In 1821 a hewed structure designed for school and church was erected on a lot now inclosed within the cemetery.
