Amling in Hospital Warren Amling, a two-time all-America lineman at Ohio State who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame last week, was admitted to a hospital here today after suffering a heart attack. The 59-year-old Amling was listed in critical but stable condition.

London, Ohio Warren Amling, an All-American offensive lineman at Ohio State in 1945, has died at 76. Amling, of London, died Thursday at OSU Medical Center in Columbus. His family and the Eberle Funeral Home said he died of natural causes, but declined to elaborate. Amling, who also played basketball for the Buckeyes, graduated with a degree in veterinary medicine and worked as a veterinarian for more than 45 years. Amling is survived by his wife, Barbara, four children, four grandchildren and four brothers. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at Saint John's Lutheran Church in London.

Dr. Amling (OSU '47 [Ohio State University]), 76, London, Ohio, died Nov. 1, 2001. A beef cattle consultant since 1990, Dr. Amling was adjunct associate professor at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine from 1983–1990. Prior to that, he worked as a staff veterinarian for J. Sawyer Company in London for 27 years. From 1948–1963 Dr. Amling was in mixed practice, first in Pana, Ill., and then London. He was an honor roll member of the AABP [American Association of Bovine Practitioners], a life member of the AASV [American Association of Swine Veterinarians], and a member of the Central Ohio VMA [Veterinary Medical Association]. Dr. Amling had also served as president of the Ohio VMA and the Central Illinois VMA. From 1965–1969 he was president of the Ohio Veterinary Medicine Licensing Board and from 1995–1999, was reappointed to the board. In 1987 Dr. Amling received the Ohio Animal Health Foundation Distinguished Service Award, and in 1997 the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine's Distinguished Alumnus Award. He was elected to the OSU Sports Hall of Fame in 1981 and to the National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame in 1984. Dr. Amling was also a past president of the London Recreation Commission, served on the tax appeal board, and was an emeritus member of the Wittenberg University Board. Football b. Dec. 29, 1924, Pana, IL d. Nov. 1, 2001 Amling entered Ohio State University in 1942 and enlisted in the Army after his freshman year. Assigned to Ohio State by the Army in 1944, Amling continued his studies and played football. A 6-foot, 197-pound lineman, he was named All-American as a guard in 1945 and as a tackle in 1946. Amling captained the 1946 team. Amling was also a starting guard on the Ohio State basketball team, which went to the NCAA final four in 1945 and 1946. After graduating in 1947, Amling turned down a chance to play for the NFL's New York Giants in order to practice veterinary medicine. (source: HickokSports.com)
