On the night of the 7th inst., the vault of the Treasury of the State of Ohio was broken open and a large sum of money taken therefrom. Three persons have been arrested, suspected of having committed the robbery, for one of whom, named William H. Rice, $10,000 in paper were recovered - and about $2,000 of specie were found in the vault of a back house in Columbus. There is but little doubt (says the State Journal) that the whole amount will be recovered in a few days. [Republican Compiler (Gettysburg, PA) May 23, 1827]
