OAKWOOD - Donald Othal Gary,74,of rural Oakwood, died Thursday in   Paulding  County  Hospital  , Paulding. He was born July 14, 1917 in Brown Township of Paulding County to Charles and  Elizabeth ( Preston ) Gary. On Nov.6, 1962 he married Elsje Marie Guilliam, who survives. Mr. Gary had worked as a truck driver for the Paulding County Highway Department, retiring in 1980, and also was a life-long farmer. He was a member of   Christ  Lutheran  Church  , Conti-
nental. Other survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Agnes McDole, Mrs. Martha McDole and Mrs. Alice Breitigam, all of   Findlay  . Services are scheduled for 2
p.m. Monday at Taylor Funeral Home in Oakwood with Rev. Kenneth Pollitz officiating. Burial is to be in   Sherman  Cemetery  near Sharloe.

GROVER HILL - Earl G. Golliver,70, of here, died it 4:10 a.m. Friday at his residence. Mr.Golliver was born July 15, 1920. in   Paulding  County  , the son
of Joseph A and Minnie Sherlock Golliver On April 12. 1944, he married Gae Jones, who survives. Mr. Golliver retired in 1981 as postmaster of Grover Hill. A   U.S.  Army veteran of World War II, he was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Grover Hill Post 2873. Survivors also include one daughter, Mrs. Trudy Wilkin of Graver Hill: one son. Glen Golliver of Van Wert; one brother, Russell Golliver of Grover Hill; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m.
Monday at   Zion  United  Methodist  Church  ,  Grover Hill. Rev. Chris Farmer officiating Burial will be in Little Auglaize Cemetery,   Paulding  County  , where  military graveside services will be conducted by the VFW. Friends may call after 1:30 p.m. Sunday and 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Grover Hill EMS.

Ada  Adell  Murray, 45, died at 12 34 p.m. Dec 2, 1999 at Select  Specialty  Hospital, Fort Wayne,  Ind. She was born April 1, 1954 in Paulding to Robert E. and Mary Elizabeth Roberts Pease. Her mother survives in Van Wert. On Aug. 27 1977, she married Brian K Murray, who survives. Mrs. Murray was a homemaker and a member of Pentecostal  Bethlehem  Tabernacle  Church  ,Van Wert. Survivors also include a step-daughter. Amy Morrow of Scott; a brother. Robert L. Pease of Van Wert: three sisters. Penny Wiles and Marcela Wiles, both of Van Wert, and Linda Hill of Middle Point; and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother. Dale E. Pease. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the church  . Van Wert. The Rev Russell  Lawrence will officiate. Burial will be in   Middle  Creek Cemetery, Grover Hill.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made lo the Van Wert Area Visiting Nurses Association.

GROVER HILL - Alonzo E. Snyder, 91, a retired farmer of Rt. 1, died 12:40 p.m. Saturday in the Van Wert Manor Nursing Home. Surviving are his wife, Ora Ethel Snyder, who resides at the nursing home; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Longstreth of Rt. 5. Van Wert, and Mrs.
Dorothy Lytle of Rt. 2, Paulding; 18 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren. He was a member of the
Christian Union Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Dedrick-Taylor Funeral Home, Rev. Paul Miller officiating, with burial in Middle
Creek Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Monday.

PAULINE KNOLL, 86. died at 5:40 a.m. Nov. 19, 2000 at Wyandot Manor, Upper Sandusky. She was born March 22,1914, in Grover Hill to Rueben and Daisy (Maxson) Saum. On April 26, 1934, she married Arthur Knoll, who died in 1978. Mrs. Knoll was a homemaker. She was a member of   Auglaize  Chapel  Church  of God in Oakwood. Survivors include a son. Roger Knoll of Wharton, six grandchildren and 10 great -grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Foltz. Services will begin at 11 am. Wednesday at   Auglaize  Chapel  Church  of God. The Rev. Raymond Matson will officiate. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery, Grover Hill. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Oakwood, or from 10 to 11 am. Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to   Auglaize  Chapel  Church  of God, Home Health Care, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Jan. 14, 1871

The funeral of Mrs. C. C. Caulkins, Antwerp, was attended at the Methodist Church in this place on Thursday last. This lady ( Miss Christine French ) was married in November, 1869, to Mr. Caulkins, and left for her new home with prospects of  a long life, and now her friends bring her lifeless corpse in the lapse of a year for interment with other members of her family.

Died - at her residence, at the Furnace, in Paulding county, Saturday, March 25th, 1871, after an illness of about thirty-six hours, Mrs. Caroline E., wife of Mr. Townsend Newton. Mrs. N. was a woman of rare qualities, with considerable mental culture. She combined a tireless energy and a sweetness of spirit with a strength and purity of affection seldom surpassed. She was born at Fort Ann in Washington county, New York, Dec. 16th, 1828, where in 1849 she consorted with Mr. Newton. Her sphere in life did not afford her a large circle of acquaintances, but over the one in which she moved she exercised a strong control. Her funeral services took place on Wednesday, March 29,1871.A husband and six children mourn the loss of a kind wife and an affectionate mother.

May 1, 1918

Joseph Schaefer, aged 52 years, a resident of Payne, Ohio, died at 9:30 o'clock last night at St. Joseph's hospital. The widow and four children survive. The body was removed to the Gets and Cahill undertaking establishment and was this afternoon shipped to Payne, where funeral services and interment will take place.


Fred C. Dysinger 60,RFD 3,Paulding, a farmer in this area for many years, died at 1:30 a. m. Wednesday at the Paulding County Hospital. He had been a patient there for one day following a heart attack.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Tolene, two daughters, Mrs .Frene  Mase, Litchfield, Mich, and Mrs. Eleanor Dunkle, Edgerton; two sons, Vernon and Nick, both of Paulding; seven sisters, Mrs. Floyd Simpson of Cecil, Miss Meryl Dysinger of Ashland City, Tenn, Mrs. Madge Pruett of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Dave Liddle, of Hermitage, Tenn., Mrs. Lawrence McKin­ney and Mrs. Fred Petty, both of Nashville, Tenn., and Mrs. Dorsey Nicholas Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Carl of Terre Haute, and Gail of Cecil,10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conduct­ed at 2 p. m. Friday in the Paul­ding Presbyterian Church, with Rev. James Parsons officiating. Burial,will be in Rochester Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Crowell-Den Herder Funeral Home until noon Friday, when the body will be taken to the church.

Heaston

Word has been received by friends in this city of the death of Miss Valora, Heaston at her home in Payne, Ohio, after an
illness of two years of tuberculosis,  Miss Heaston was formerly an employee of the Wayne Knitting mills in this city,
and a member of the West Jefferson Street Church of Christ. She Is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Heaston;
two sisters, Mrs. Josie Rhielle, of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Kenneth Richwine, and two brothers, Harold and Ansil, of Detroit.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ at Payne. Ohio, Sunday afternoon at 2 o clock The Rev Mr. Tomes of
Gary, will officiate Interment In the Lehman cemetery.

CHARLOE - Mrs. Eva Hutchison, 79. of Akron. a summer resident of Charloe,  died at 2:10 p. m. Monday while attending the convention of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Cincinnati. Mrs. Hutchison was a member of the First Congregational Church, current state treasurer of the Daughters of the American Colonists, a member of the DAR. the 1812 Historical Association and the women's auxiliary of the Akron Hon Lions Club. Born October. I893. In Garfield. Kan., she was a daughter of Clark and Alice (Ayrea) Mead . She was a former resident of the Charloe com-
munity and and taught school for seven years, having taught in the Charloe. Lighthill and Keck Grade Schools. She was in alumnae of toe Normal School. Angola, lnd., now Tri-State College. On Sept. it. 1916. she married Walter Hutchison, a native of Scott. Following her husband's graduation from law school, they moved to Akron, where she
assisted him as legal secretary. Mr. Hutchison died Oct. I. 1964. Survivors include a brother, Arthur, Marcellus. Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Glen (Irene) Harshbarger of Mogadore. Four brothers, Otto, John, Leslie and Earl, three sisters, Miss Agnes Mead, Mrs. Beatrtce Cunningham and Miss Edwina Mead, are deceased. Funeral servicea will be at 2 p. m Thursday in the Taylor Funeral Home. Oakwood, with the Rev. Freeman Whetstone officiating. Burial will be in
Charloe Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p. m.  Wednesday.

PAULDING — Mrs. Lilyan Eileen Hale, 56, of Rt. 1, Paulding died at 10 a. m. Friday in her home. She was born Aug. 5, 1917, near Grover Hill, a daughter of Guilford 0. and Alta (Lake) McClure.
On Nov. 6,1946, she married Wallace Hale of Van Wert. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1960. Survivors include her parents of Grover Hill; two sons, Larry and Gary of Rt. 1, Paulding, and a grandson. Mrs. Hale was a former employe of Grizzly Manufacturing Co., Paulding, and a member of Broughton United Methodist Church and its Women's Society of Christian Service. She also served at one time as pianist. Funeral services will be at 2 p. m.
Monday in Broughton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack T. Corn officiating. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery. Friends may call in Didrick-Taylor Funeral Home, Grover Hill, after 10 a. m. Sunday.

CLOVERDALE — Woodrow Gudakunst of Rt 1. Cloverdale died at 4:40 a. m today in Van Wert County Hospital. following an illness of five years. He had undergone open heart surgery, four years ago. He was born March 26, 1918, in Putnam County, a son of Melvin J and Gertie B  (Stern) Gudakunst. Survivors include his widow, the former Ruth Ann Elston of Grover Hill, whom he married Sept 23, 1939; his parents ol Rt. 1. Cloverdale. two daughters. Mn. Bill ( Sharon) O'Neil of Zion. Ill and Miss. Marlene G;udakunst, at home; two sons Gary of Rt 1, Cloverdale and John of Grover Hill; two sisters. Mrs. Phillip ( Mildred) Pratt of Haviland and Mrs May Jarmon of Amarillo, Tex., and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother. Merlyn. Mr. Gudakunst. a lifelong farmer, was proprietor of the Melrose Seed and Grain. Inc.. an aerial applicator for 25 years in Paulding County and former owner of the Grover Hill elevator having sold it in 1974 due to ill health. He owned and operated the Tri-County Flying Service for 30 years and was a member of the National Flying Farmers Assocation. He was a former member of the Grover Hill School Board, and graduated from Grover
Hill School in 1936. He was also affiliated with the Roselms Christian Church and was a member of the Ohio farmer's Union of Grain Buyes amd the Wesl Branch Conservation Club. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday tn Roselms Christian Church with the Rev. Paul Miller and the Rev Donald Baer officiating Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery Friends may call after 7 p. m Wedesday in Didnck-Taylor Funeral Home. Grover Hill.

GROVER HILL - Melvin J. Gudakunst, 85. of Rt. 1. died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday at home following a lengthy illness.  His wife, the former Gertie B. Stern, survives. Other survivors are two  daughters. Mrs. Mildred Pratt of
Haviland and Mrs Mae Jarmon of Amarilo, Tex.; seven grandchildren: and 10 great-grandchildren. He was a life-long farmer. Services will be at 2 p.m Tuesday in Roselms Christian Church. Rev. Paul Miller and Rev. Michael Porter officiating. Burial will be in Middle Creek Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at the Didnck-Taylor P'uneral Home.

OAKWOOD - Cynthia D. Grimes, 34, died at 9:05 p.m. Monday at Paulding County Hospital following an extended illness. She was born Nov. 25, 1947, in Defiance, the daughter of Robert and Virginia Warren Brown, who survive in Oakwood. On July 3, 1965, she married Eugene (Beanie) Grimes, who also survives. Mrs. Grimes was a 1965 graduate of Auglaize-Brown High School at Oakwood. She was formerly employed as an academic secretary at the Chapel Christian Academy. She was a member of Prairie Chapel Bible Church.
Survivors also include two sons, Marty Grimes and Joshua Grimes, both at home; four brothers, Bob Brown, Leo Brown and Larry Brown, all of Oakwood and Bill Brown of Paulding; and a sister, Mrs. Bill (Rainell) Koenn of Cecil. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Prairie Chapel Bible Church, Dr. Kenny McComas officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Taylor Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Wednesday and at the church an hour
before services on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Christian Academy or the church.

OAKWOOD - Marla Marie Matson, 4 1/2, died at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. She was a student at Parc Lane School in Paulding.
Survivors include her parents, David and Sandra Geren Matson of Oakwood; grandparents. Rev. and Mrs. Raymond Matson of Oakwood and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Geren of Oakwood; and great-erandparents. Elwood Matson of Continental, Thelma Rair of Paulding and Edith Merriman of Oakwood. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Auglaize Chapel Church of God. Burial will be in Little Auglaize Cemetery, Melrose. Friends may call at Taylor Funeral Home after 7 tonight and anytime Saturday. The body will be taken to the church an hour before time of services.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Siferd Westwood Chapel for Alice U. Ludwig, 79, of Lima. She died at 11:30 a.m.
Monday at Mount Carmel Medical Center, Columbus. She was bom June 30, 1907, in New Rochelle, N.Y., the daughter of Lucien F. and Alice A. Finnegan Unkart. On June 6, 1928, she married Dr. William B. Ludwig, who died Feb. 11,1976. Mrs. Ludwig was a homemaker. She was a member of Central Christian Church and its choir. She was also a member of Trinity Chapter 16, Order of Eastern Star, and Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem No. 20. She had
been a volunteer for Lima Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a precinct worker for the board of elections.  Survivors include two sons, Bernard E. Ludwig of Lima, and Dr. Robert N. Ludwig of Columbus; one daughter, Barbara J. Talbot of Miami, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grand- child. Francis Koenn will officiate services. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the the funeral home.

PAULDING - Sarah A. Burnett, 47, of Paulding died at noon Tuesday in St. Joseph Hospital , Fort Wayne , about 12 hours after admission She had been in ill health for about two years. Born July 31, 1927, in Bluffton, she was a daughter of Wilhelm and Heigh (Bradenburg) Amstutz.  Mrs. Burnett was a business course teacher at Paulding High School prior to her illness. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Paulding Women's Club. 
Survivors include her husband, Ernest, who is instrumental music director at Paulding High School ; a daughter, Rebecca, at home; two sons, Marvin, a student at the University of Cincinnati and Kevin, at home; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Yoder of Michigan City , Ind. , and a brother, Wilhelm Amstutz II of Phoenix , Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p. m. Friday in the First Christian Church with the Rev. David Everton officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery , Bluffton.Friends may call at Crowell- DenHerder Funeral Home, Paulding, after 2 p. m. Thursday.
Preferred memorials are to the church or Dr. Joseph Sokal of Roswell

OAKWOOD — Ralph Moorman of Toledo and a former Roselms resident, died at 2:10 this morning in Toledo Hospital following a
stroke.  
Surviving is his wife, Ilo. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Taylor Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mellinger Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Grover Hill Veterans of Foreign Wars post and Oakwood American Legion post.

OAKWOOD - Glen Martin Coppes, 49, died at 10:11 a.m. Saturday in Defiance City Hospital following an apparent heart attack. He was a farmer. Survivors include a brother, L. Richard Coppes of Rt. 2. 
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Taylor Funeral Home, Rev. Robert Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery , Melrose . Friends may call after 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

PAULDING - William D. Hunter, 47, of Paulding, died at 1:30 a. m. today in Paulding County Hospital where he had been a patient seven days. He had been seriously ill for about five months. 
Born on April 5, 1925, in Portland . Pa. , he was the son of Roy and Margaret (Mitchell) Hunter. Survivors include his widow, Janet (Adams) Hunter; his mother, who resides in Lima ; two sons, Timothy of Springfield and Jeffrey of Oxford; a stepson, Roland Strahley of
Paulding, and a grandchild. Mr. Hunter was in the Merchant Marines In World War II, and was employed by LaCross Co. in Fort Wayne as district sales manager. He was also a member of Paulding Eagles. 
Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Saturday in the First Christian Church, Paulding, with the Rev. David Everton officiating.
 Burial will be in Live Oak Cemetery. Friends may call at the Crowell-DenHerder Funeral Home after 2:30 p. m. Memorials are to be given to the Paulding County Cancer Society.
