Vancel J. Pack
Lima - Vancel J. Pack, 69, died at 3:50 a.m. June 23, 1997, at St. Rita's Medical Center . He was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Johnson County , Kentucky , to Charlie and Cora (Chandler) Pack. On Oct 30, 1959, he married Eileen Deck, who survives.
Mr. Pack retired in 1991 as a custodian at Shawnee High School , where he had worked since 1975. He was previously employed at Grocord Rubber Co. He was a 32-year member of the Lima Missionary Baptist Church , where he had been a Sunday school teacher. He was also a Navy veteran. Also surviving are four daughters, a brother, a sister, and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Pack and Clifford Pack; and two sisters, Marie Williams and Delcie Williams. Services will begin at 1 pm today at Lima missionary Church on Yoder Road. The Rev. Terry Brock will officiate. Burial will be in Cairo- West cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Matthew Perkins
Services for Matthew Perkins, 88, a retired Leipsic area farmer who died Sunday in Memorial Hospital, Lima will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Leipsic Evangelical United Brethen Church. The Rev. B.C. Krugh and the Rev. W.A. Lydick will officiate. Burial will be in Harmon Cemetery. Mr. Perkins, a former Bluffton resident was born in Blanchard township Nov 13, 1866. He was married in 1887 to Caroline Mae Harris. she died in 1943. Surviving are three sons, Ray, Sylvania; Chester, McComb; and Calvert, Hudson, Mich.; a daughter Mrs. Etta Ostrander, Leipsic; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Anna McDowell, Findlay; And Mrs. Hugh Harris, Ottawa. Frederick Pickens
LEIPSIC - Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at LaPoint Funeral Home, Ottawa , for Frederick Pickens, 71, He died at 1:37 a.m. Friday at the Hometown Nursing Home in Ottawa following an extended illness.
He was born July 20,1913, in Van Buren Township, Putnam County , the son of Willis A. and Lena M. (Feight) Pickens.
Mr. Pickens was a farmer. He served with the Army during World War II He was member of the American Legion and St. Paul 's United Methodist Church in Deshler. He had been a Van Buren Township committeeman for the Putnam County Soldiers and Sailors Relief Commission.
Survivors include two brothers, and a sister. Rev. William Hull will officiate for the services. Burial will be in Sugar Ridge Cemetery . Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and until time of services Monday at the funeral home. [Lima News, Feb 23, 1985]

Mrs. Paul Place
Mrs. Paul Place, 36, died at her home Friday, following a short illness from pneumonia, superinduced by an attack of influenza. Mrs. Place is the wife of an employee of the Leipsic postoffice. She is survived by four children, ranging in age from 12 to six years. Mrs. Place was a member of Putnam chapter, Order of Eastern Star at Ottawa, and during the term of office of Mrs. F. A. Stroup as worthy matron, held Martha's chair in the star points. Services probably will be held Sunday, with the Order of Eastern Star in charge.

Sara Pope
Wealthy Woman Ends Life with Rope
Ottawa, O., Jan 17- Miss Sara Pope, aged 50 years, and living on her farm five miles south of here, committed suicide today by hanging herself in the barn. Miss Pope one of the wealthiest women in this county, and had managed her own farm for years. She was consumptive and had often spoken to her friends of ending her life.

Bernard Potthoff
CLOVERDALE, May 6 -Last rites will be held at 10 a. m. Monday in the Fischer funeral home at Ottawa for Bernard Potthoff, 61, of Cloverdale. The Rev. Carl Willacher will officiate and burial will be made in the Cloverdale cemetery. Mr. Potthoff died Friday in his home here from a heart attack. He was born Dec. 25, 1888. Surviving are two brothers, Theodore Potthoff and William, both of Cloverdale.
