Ross County is located in the
Appalachian region of the state of Ohio, established on August 20, 1798. Chillicothe was the first and third capital of
Ohio. The name comes from the Shawnee name Chalahgawtha, meaning
"principal town."
The Ohio-Erie
Canal ran through Ross County, making it a very successful place during
canal times.
