Ross County Information
Ross County is located in the Appalachian region part of Ohio and was established August 20, 1798, having been part of Adams County from July 10, 1797, and before that, part of Hamilton County.

Chillicothe was the first and third capital of Ohio. The name comes from the Shawnee name Chalahgawtha, meaning "principal town."

The Ohio-Erie Canal ran through Ross County, making it a very successful place during canal times.
