Ross County is located in the Appalachian region of the state of Ohio, established on August 20, 1798. Its county seat is Chillicothe, the first capital of Ohio. The county is named for Federalist Senator James Ross of Pennsylvania. Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio is a city along the Scioto Rover. The name comes from the Shawnee name Chalahgawtha, meaning "principal town."
