Physician Killed in Rail Crossing Crash
Dr. M. P. Jeffrey, 33, one of three physicians practicing at Vermillion, east of here, was instantly killed today when a fast New york Central passenger train struck and demolished his automobile at a street crossing in Vermillion. the physician had worked almost continuously, day and night for the last three weeks, caring for influenza patients and loss of sleep is believed to have caused him to be less alert in approaching the railroad crossing.

Julius Brengartner was granted a divorce from his wife Mamie this morning by Judge Reed. The plainiff alleged gross neglect of duty and showed by witnesses that his wife had been unfaithful. Mrs. Brengartner made no fight but asked that she might be allowed to visit the children. The court granted the request marking the condition that the father be present at the time the visits are made. The testimony was quite sensational and several prominent witnesses appeared on the stand to testify as to the good character of the plainiff.

John Young , who was a defendant in an alimony case in which his wife, Emma Young, was a plainiff, has now become plainiff in a divorce case. He was given time in which to file a cross petition for divorce. He has done so and alleges gross neglect of duty.

Mr. Charles A. Uthe, of Uthe & Hiltz drug store, has been confined to his home the past two days, account of sickness.

Mrs. Mary Peebles, wife of the late John Peebles, died at the residence of Edward Clark on Warren street at 9 o'clock Monday morning. She was an old resident of this city, being 74 years of age. The funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 8 o'clock at Sts. Peter and Paul's church.

A 14-pound baby girl has arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Morris M. link, on West Washington street and the father is very proud.

Walter Hanson, who has been quite ill with malarial fever, is somewhat better.

Died at he residence of her son J. F. Hertlein, corner of Market and Meigs streets, Monday, July 7, 1902, at 5:50 p.m., Mrs. Catherine Hertlein, relict of George Hertlein, aged 77y 8m 5d. Funeral services Wednesday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m. Burial private.

John D. Nolan a brakeman on the Sandusky division of the B & O died at the home of William B. Curth with whom he had been boarding of typhoid fever Tuesday morning. He had been ill for some time and his father, sister and brother of Reynoldsville, Pa., were at his bedside when death came. He was about 26 years of age and was single. The remains will be shipped to his home at Reynoldsville, Pa., at 9 o'clock this evening.

The funeral services over the remains of the late Mrs. Mary O' Connel were held at the late residence on Madison street Tuesday morning at 7:30 o'clock at the Sts. Peter and Paul's church at 8 o'clock. The services were largely attended.

George John Koegle, one of the oldest men in Sandusky and a pioneer resident, passed away at his home, No. 428 Perry street, Wednesday morning at 6:30 o'clock. Mr. Koegle was almost 91 years of age and had been a resident of Sandusky for over half a century. He leaves three sons, Fred, John and August. The funeral arrangements have not yet been made.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ross are happy over the arrival of a baby girl at their home.

Died at the family residence, No. 1205 Washington street at 4:30 p.m. July 9th., Mrs. Catherine Moltz, wife of August Moltz, at the age of 46y 5m 5d. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 1:30 o'clock p.m. Sunday , July 13th, and from St. Stephen's church at 2:00 p.m. Friends of the family invited.

There are 77 Saloons in Sandusky county, 44 being in Fremont.

The many friends of Mary O. Cowdery will regret to learn of her death which occurred Saturday morning at 11:30 o'clock at the residence of her nephew, mr. Leverett L. Curtis, No. 507 Hayes avenue. Miss Cowdery had been ill for over a year and had suffered a great deal. She was born in LeRoy, Genessee county, New York, April 26, 1823, and came to Sandusky in 1858. She was an estimable lady and well liked by everyone who knew her. She was a sister of the late M. F. and J. S. Cowdery and Mrs. W. D. Curtis. The funeral services will be held at the residence of Leverett L. Curtis, Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Burial will be private.

Divorces

A sensational divorce suit was filed with the clerk of courts today by Ada Thomas, wife of Albert Thomas, in which the plainiff alleges that she was married to her husband in 1901, and that he has never provided for her, either in the way of clothes or food. She makes the allegation that in March, 1902, just one year after they were married, he struck her down at the residence of R. B. Maxwell, of Mansfield. At that time he was arrested and taken before the mayor of Mansfield. He was fined for the offense and taken to the work house. Mrs. Thomas asks that she be granted a divorce and also be given her maiden name, Ada Franklin, by the court.

Louisa Hollister has filed a petition for divorce in the common pleas court in which she alleges that she was wedded to her husband, Edwin Hollister in the village of Vermillion in 1897. She claims the defendant has been guilty of gross neglect of duty, willful abstence and non-support. She asks that she be given a divorce.
