July 5, 1902 H. C. Post, another of Sandusky's well known and old citizens passed away at 11:30 o'clock Thursday evening. Mr. Post had been ill for a long time and the end came peacefully as he had lived. Halsey C. Post was one of Sandusky's prominent citizens. When he was a younger man he was interested in almost every improvement made in Sandusky. He was 89 years of age when he died and next to James marshal of this city, was the oldest man in Sandusky. He was born in Clinton, Connecticut, April 13, 1813. He came to this city 45 years ago and had been identified with many of Sandusky's most prominent business projects. He was the first president of the Sandusky Electric Light company and of the White Line street car line. For a number of years he was president of the Ohio Tool company. He was one of the founders, and for many years a director of the Second National bank. He was president of the Lake Ice company. In 1856, he organized the Post Fish company, still in business. He was for many years a trustee and one of the most liberal supporters of the Congregational church. Even in his old age he could be found in his pew almost every Sunday. Mr. Post was a home man, He loved his home and was a devoted and loving to his family. He was loved by his employees to whom he was always kind and generous. Even during his illness, Mr. Post was to be found at his office at the Fish company's dock. Until the last three weeks, he was wheeled down to the office in an invalid chair. He leaves three children, Mrs. M. D. Leggett, of Cleveland; Mrs. S. P. Brownell, of New York, and Captain Joseph W. Post, of this city, to mourn their loss. Mrs. Post died about three years ago. Mr. Post came from a long lived family. He has two sisters living, one of whom is 85 years of age and the other 87. A brother died about a year ago aged 95 years. The funeral services will be held at the late residence at the corner of Wayne and Madison streets, Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited. Burial will be private. Submitted By Sandusky Star July 7, 1902 After long weary months of suffering and fighting the dread disease
tuberculosis, Lea Brittingham succumbed to the inevitable Saturday
afternoon at the West Newton hospital in Boston. Mr. Brittingham left
here in January and received the best of treatment. He had been
injured by a fall and the disease soon developed. At times it looked
as though he might conquer the disease but death won in the end.
Throughout all of his suffering he was patient and cheerful and hoped
for the best, but was always ready for the worst. The remains arrived
in this city at 4:45 o'clock Monday morning from Boston via the Lake
Shore railroad. The body was taken to the residence of Lewis M. lea,
No. 502 Wayne street. Mrs. W. G. Myers, mother of the young man and
Miss Bessie Brittingham, a sister, accompanied the remains. The young
man was well known in this city and popular among a host of friends,
all of whom have been watching his fight for life with a heartfelt
interest and hope that he would survive. Among young and old he was
well known and much sorrow is felt at the news of his death. He was
cut down just at the dawn of young manhood. Had he lived until the
24th of this month, he would have been 19 years of age. Submitted By Van Wert Times Harriet
