Elmer Chambers, Ft. Loramie, Shelby County, Ohio
News, Feb. 8, 1954 Requiem High Mass for Emer Chambers, 64,
an employee of the Ohio State Division of Parks will be held
at 9 a.m. Wednesday in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Ft.
Loramie. The Rev. Paul Ratterman will be celebrant and
burial will be in the New Bremen Cemetery. Mr. Chambers
died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday in his home after an illness of
three months. Surviving are his widow, Garnet three
sons, Roy, Indian River, Mich.; Orville Minster and Russel,
Lima; four daughters, Mrs. Alice Musser, Rout 5, Lima; Mrs.
Evelyn Connor, Germantown; Mrs. Bernice Paulus, Houston, Ohio;
Jane Ann at home; two step-sons Nelson Saughneder, Muncie,
Ind.; Charles Saughneder in the U.S. Air Force; three sisters,
Mrs. Grace Shepherd, Mrs. Nora Shepherd, and Mrs. Hazel
Wires,, all of Lima; and a half-brother, Frank Inman in
Texas. The body will remain
in the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minister, where friends may
call after 6 p.m. (See

Nettie Brown Chambers, daughter of Lowery and
Katherine Brown was born 30, November 1870 in Van Wert County,
Ohio and departed this life in Ft. Loramie, Ohio, at teh age
of 66 years and 2 days (2 Dec. 1936). She was united in
marriage to Harry Chambers of Ft. Loramie, Ohio on 15 Oct.ber,
1898. To this union was born two children, Marion
Chambers and of Ft. Loramie, Ohio and Maud Bocknight,
deceased. A granddaughter Dorothy Ludeke made her home
with Mr. and Mrs. Chambers from birth. Mrs. Chambers is
also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Strong and Mrs. Stout of
Pleasant Hill, Ohio. In early life
she attended the German Reform Church of Ft. Loramie,

12, 1934
Jerry Chambers passed away at the home of
his daughter Mrs. Hazel Brown, at Lima, Saturday about 4:00
p.m. He was 88 years old and well known around
here. He had been seriously ill
about three weeks but poorly for several months. In the
early part of his life, he was the owner of Short's Landing
for forth years after which George Short was the
owner. He is survived by three daughters
in Lima, Mrs. Hazel Brown, Mrs. Grace Shepherd, and Mrs. Nora
Shepherd, Elmer Chambers, Harvey Chambers, and Mrs. Hazel
Brown, Mrs. Grace Shepherd, and Mrs. Nora Shepherd, Elmer
Chambers, Harvey Chambers, and Mrs. Emma Viola Short.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock at the house with
interment at New Breman Tuesday afternoon. (Contributed

Funeral Rites Held For Aged County Farmer,
Jeremiah Chambers Buried at New Breman Died Saturday
Afternoon Funeral services for Jeremiah Chambers, 88
retired farmer of Loramie township and former manager of
Short's Landing were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock
from the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Short at Short's
Landing, Ft. Loramie. Burial was made in the New Bremen
Cemetery. The aged man died
Saturday afternoon about 4:00 o'clock at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. F. E. Brown on the Findlay Road, Lima after an
illness of three weeks. A greater
part or his life was spent as a farmer in the Ft. Loramie
community, but he was probably best known as the manager of
the present Short's Landing which he conducted for about forty
years. Following his retirement, it was taken over by
his son in law George Short. He was a great fisherman
and sportsman and was a member of the Ft. Loramie Borrowed
Time Club. His death occurred
while he was enjoying a visit of several weeks at the home of
his daughter, Mrs. Brown and with another daughter in Lima,
Mrs. Grace Shepherd. The surviving
children are four daughters and two sons, Mrs. George Short,
Ft. Loramie; Mrs. Jesse Shepherd; Mrs. F. E. Brown; Mrs. Cary
Shepherd, Lima; Elmer and Harry Chambers of Ft. Loramie; Many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jeremiah M. Chambers, April 6, 1846 -
October 6, 1934, Ft. Loramie, Oct. 8 - Jeremiah Chambers, 88,
a retired farmer, died Monday morning at the home of a
daughter Mrs. F. Earl Brown, Findlay Rd., after an illness of
three weeks. Three other daughters and two sons
survive. They are Mrs. George Short of Ft. Loramie, Mrs.
Jess hepherd, of Findlay Rd., Mrs. Carrie (Cary) Shepherd of
Lima; Elmer and Harry Chambers of Ft. Loramie. Chambers
was born in Shelby County and at the time of his death was
visiting his daughter here (Lima). He was a member of
the Borrowed Time Club. Funeral services have not been

SIEGEL
Irena A. Siegel, 96, formerly of Newport,
died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at her residence in
Fort Loramie. She was born Aug. 5, 1904, in Minster, the
daughter of Henry and Mary (Fleckenstein) Sommer. On Nov. 15,
1921, she married Frank J. Siegel, who died Dec. 8, 1966.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara (Ralph) BROWN of
Lakeview, Geraldine (John) PERMENTER of Troy, Carol STREIB of
Versailles and Judy (John) HOLTVOGT of Fort Loramie; a son,
Thomas (Norma) Siegel of Newport; a sister, Clara FADER of
Dayton; two daughters- in-law, Hilda Siegel of Fort Loramie
and Barbara Siegel of Piqua; a son-in-law, Melvin BERGMAN
of Newport; 32 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by two daughters, two sons, a brother,
four sisters, and six grandchildren. Mrs. Siegel was a cook
at Earls Island Restaurant in Lake Loramie for 28 years. She
was one of the original organizers of the Fort Loramie High
School Band. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic
Church in Newport, the Knights of St. John Auxiliary and
Rosary and the Alter Sodality of the church. A mass of
Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sts.
Peter and Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Shoup
officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m
Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster. Memorials may
be directed to the Fort Loramie Rescue

LUEDEKE
Former New Bremen resident Dorothy M.
Luedeke, 92, died at 5:45 p.m. July 3 at Celina Manor Nursing
Home. She was born June 12, 1909, in Fort Loramie, to William
and Maude (Chambers) Bouknecht. On April 27, 1929, she married
Ray W. Luedeke who died Sept. 22, 1994. Survivors are a son
and his wife, Ben and Gundi of Montezuma; two daughters,
Virgene MOHRMAN, Wapakoneta, and Betty BELTON, Celina; a
half-brother, Harold Bouknecht of Ala.; 10 grandchildren, 19
great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Cliff, a granddaughter, Betty, two great-
grandsons and a half-brother, Robert Bouknecht. She was
a homemaker and retired from Crown Equipment Corp., New
Bremen. She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of
Christ, New Bremen. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the
church, the Rev. Stephen Wills officiating. Burial is at
German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen. Calling is 6-9 p.m.
Friday at Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home, New Bremen, and
9:30 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the
church. Contributions can be made to the church memorial

Sarah A. Barker Davis Died: Friday,
November 29, 2002 Age: 90 Sarah A. Davis, 90, 8001
Dayton-Springfield Road, Fairborn, formerly of Sidney, died
Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at 8:40 p.m. at Day Springs Nursing
Home in Fairborn. She was born Dec. 8, 1911, in Sidney,
the daughter of Sylvester Barker and Bertha (Chambers) Barker.
In 1943 she married Richard W. Davis. He died June 14,
1993. She is survived by a son, Richard Davis Jr. of
Dayton; three grandchildren; four brothers, Leonard Barker and
Marcellus Barker, both of Sidney, Robert L. Barker of St.
James City, Fla. and William R. Barker of Troy; and two
sisters, Marcella Detrick of Sidney and Georgia Liller of Rio
Verde, Ariz. Mrs. Davis was a retired employee of
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. She was administrative
assistant to the commander of the 4950th Avionics Maintenance
Squadron, retiring in 1982 after 16 years at the base. She was
a member of the National Association of Retired Federal
Employees. She attended St. Luke's United Methodist Church,
Fairborn. Services are set for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at
Cromes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chris Heckaman
officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from
noon until the time of service. Condolences may be sent by

Sidney, April 2, Fleet Deal,
77, retired farmer, died yesterday at his home in Port
Jefferson, near here. He was born near Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Cora; one son; Fred, one daughter,
Mrs. Roy Nicholson, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Young, of
Alblon, Ind. Funeral services will be held tomorrow
afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Dearth funeral Home. The
Rev. A. F. Rinehart of the Port Jefferson M. E. church will
officate. Burial will be in Port Jefferson
cemetery.

George A. Short Sidney, Nov.
20. Funeral services for George A. Short, 62, widely
known as the proprietor of Short's Landing on the south shore
of Lake Loramie, who died Wednesday were held at the Reformed
Church in Fort Loramie at 2:30 o'clock Saturday. Burial
in the Newport Cemetery. Rev. Cecil Good of Lima
officiating. He was born and spent the greater part of
his life in Shelby County. He is survived by his wife
Emma Chambers Robbins Short and one daughter Agnes Ruth; and
one brother. Perry Short of Newport also survives.
