Tallmadge is bordered on the west by Akron and on the east by the border
of Summit and Portage Counties. A small part of the town is in
Portage County.
Tallmadge was an early settlement of the Northwest territory. It was
part of Town 2, Range 10 in the Connecticut Western Reserve. It was
founded in 1806 by Reverend Rev. David Bacon of Connecticut who had bought
about 12,000 acres. It was named after Benjamin Tallmadge, one of
the investors from whom Bacon bought his land. He had the land surveyed in November of
that year. He designed the original town after other New England
towns, with 7 ½ acres set aside as a public square with a roundabout, now
know as Tallmadge Circle, and a eight roads going out from the circles
like spokes..
