John D. Johnson

On Friday, August 18, John D. Johnson, accompanied by his brother William H. Johnson, Northfield, Ohio, flew into the local airport, the former as pilot, to visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter V. Johnson, Freeport Road.  The two visitors left the following Monday morning for the return trip and that evening in a landing accident on the Northfield Air Strip, John was killed instantly and William, critically injured, was taken to St. Thomas Hospital in Akron, Ohio where he is now recovering slowly.  John is survived by his wife Juanita, two daughters, Linda and Denise, college students, his bereaved parents, and brothers William of Northfield, Ohio and Robert E. of Detroit.  Services were held Aug. 24 from the Richard Henry Funeral Parlors in Battle Creek, and John, having recently retired as a Colonel in the U. S. Army was accorded a military funeral.  Interment was made in his home cemetery.  (DeFuniak Springs Herald Breeze, 31 Aug 72, p 8.  Transcribed by SLH)
